GAP IN STEERING

WHEN I'M DRIVING AND I GET READY TO TURN FROM LEFT TO RIGHT OR THE OTHER WAY AROUND I HAVE A SPACE ABOUT A INCH WIDE WHERE THE STEERING WHEEL JUST FREELY TURNS UNTIL IT GETS TIGHT AGAIN AND CONTINUES TURNING. IS THERE ANYTHING THAT I CAN DO ABOUT THIS?

yes, you can turn off your caps lock, then check your rag joint in the steering shaft.

Step one-check the rag joint between the rack input shaft and the steering intermediate shaft. It is also called a flexible coupler.

If that is ok, start checking the tie rod ends, particularly the inners. If ok, check that there is no play in the rack.

Most likely it is the rag joint.
