gas cap error message

Getting a gas cap error message .Checked gas cap of course. pressed reset button . Message returns every ten minutes or so. what causes this? and how do i get rid of it?

Thanks for the response. No its not a 6 .09 Bullitt manual trans with only 2100 miles on her .This has happened on other cars i have owned Hyundais but in those cases you just open the cap start the car runnthe automatic trans through gears wait about three minutes close cap end of message. Thought there might be an easy cure for this as well.
 
I know you checked the cap, but have you unscrewed the cap and put it back on?

If you've tried that, then try running it as stated above. If that doesn't work, disconnect the battery for 10 minutes.
 
Thanks for the input guys shes under the cover now snow tommorow so when the weather clears up will test drive and find out if it healed itself. Already have opened cap resecured, topped off tank made sure cap was on correctly. maybe it will clear up if not to the dealer we go.
