About a week ago i lost my gas cap, so i went to auto zone to get one and the one they gave me didnt fit snug aginst the body, the rubber seal made contact but there was about 1/4-1/2 an inch between the medal part oof the cap and the car, so i went to the mustang shop in phx. and they ordered one , when i got it they charged me 75 bucks, its a locking gas cap with a mustang emblem that flips out of the way to get to the key hole.

anyway i was wondering if that was the normal price of a gas cap? seems really high to me, i do like it tho.

Does it look like this?

I captured that out of NPD's acrobat catalog. I guess I'm lucky my '68 came with a pile of parts and the cap on the left was in the pile.

The proper gas caps for 71-73 are either:

At $129.95

or

At $52.99
.

For best fit and appearance, you should have the plastic honeycomb taillight panel for the flip-open cap (top) and the standard steel taillight panel for the screw-off cap (bottom).
