My gas gauge has never worked, it always says full. I just use the tripodemeter and fill up like every 150miles, give or take. One day i'll spend the $60 to replace the sender.

mine does what yours does, just stays past full till about a 1/4 tank then goes down to where it should be, i think you just have to get a new sender, im not sure, i havent really looked into it, but if anyone knows i wanna know too. lol

Ok guys... Mine stays at full until a quarter of a tank and then goes down to 1/4 and reads accurately under a 1/4 tank. My friends did the same and all it took was a new sender, warranty was 60 days... Went 90 and it happened again. Bought new one and took old one back. Since this 5 years ago he has done this a number of times but has had the same one for the past two years. Was it worth it???

i have the same problem and it got progressively worse.

used to jump to full and you could shut it off and re-start and get an accurate reading. now it stays there until the 1/4 tank. i always figured it was the sending unit also.

too lazy/occupied with other mods to fix it though.

My car will read a 1/4 tank sometimes. Then if I shut it off, then get back in and start it up and back up real fast then go... it'll read full for awhile before going back down... silly ass thing

My speedo is similarly afflicted, but the low fuel light still works so I don't worry about it. I've replaced tach, water temp and oil pressure with Autometer gauges so far, fuel is further down my wish list.

Same here, just to lazy to pull the tank and replace the sending unit.

Mine did the same thing. Sending unit was bad no bid deal. Easy fix. Same as installing a fuel pump to change it.

my old 2.3 used to read ultra full until a 1/4 tank then it would read.
when i bought my 91 it worked and i was like "sweet, a working one!"
then after like 3 weeks i had it it broke, flat out gone, only reads empty

so i do as stated above, fill up every 150-160 mile

yea donday, mine will stay way above full, then all of a sudden it'll just drop to e and the light will come on, it happens everytime and i'd fill up, it'd only take like 12 gallons, so now i've gotten in the habit of letting it stay on for a couple of days

I saw someone say that something in their sending unit fell down inside the tank, thus reading way past full until they were around 1 gallon left in the tank. This is what mine does. Once it gets low, the gas gauge will go from full to like 1/8 tank really fast. Once it hits 1/8 tank, the low fuel light comes on. I need to pull the tank and check the sending unit one day. Which is hard to do on a daily driver...

I appears almost no one has a fox with a working gas guage. I do the same deal, 200mi, then fill it. I have 3-5 gallons left at that point. That leftover fuel serves to cool the pump. I changed my tank and pump but didnt fix the sender. I did diagnose it as bad when I had it out though. If any of you change the sender, get a filler neck grommet from ford or 5.0 resto before you do it. That thing broke when I took it apart and I was glad I had a new one on hand.
