Alright, well last fill up I got around 14MPG and yesterday I filled up($47:fuss:) and recalculated at 17.4 MPG. Only thing I've done is seafoamed and never going above 2000RPMS. I was pretty happy, is 17MPG good for in town driving? Also one more question, When I was seafoaming I noticed the plastic hose connecting to my PCV has oil residue where it attached to the PCV at. I shook the valve and it rattled, and it is the original. Should I just grab a new one from Autozone or leave it? I didn't know if I put a new one in if I could squeeze out a extra mile from a gallon or not.

Sorry Im not sure the avg milage for a 98 would be,but on my 01 gt I had it got around 15-16 town.My 04 mach got about 18mpg city and 25-26hwy about 3 weeks ago when i checked it.

Now as for the PCV I have the same prob except in between oil changes(5k miles)I have add maybe a 1/2 quart of oil.Its normal for some oil to get past the pcv valve and that may be why your seeing some.I would change the valve at least once a year but Ive always changed every other to every couple oil changes. But I may not be changing it as often in the Mach since they are $30.To be honest I really dont know how often they need to be changed but since they are so cheap for the GT's I did it often.

I normally get 17-18 in pure city driving with my 97, so I'd say your 17 is on par. City driving varies a lot... Obviously, if you are in dense city like NY, your mileage will be terrible, but if you have long streches where you can run 45-50 without too many lights, it'll be a lot better.
I don't think the PCV has much if any effect on mileage. I pulled my PCV and it wasn't sealing as a check valve should. I replaced it and the mileage is still the same.

Tune up... plugs, wires for your year I believe, fuel filter, pcv valve, clean maf, & throttle body and make sure air cleaner is clean. Inflate tires to 42lbs.

My 04 GT automatic averages 22 around town and 24-27 mpg on the highway.
