Ok so I was @ the gas station the other day filling up with 3 sumthin gas, and right when I was done filling up I looked down and there was my money spilling all over the ground so i got her home, and siphoned the gass out till it stopped leaking. It's coming from where the spout connects to the tank, is there a gasket there that could need replacing or would it be something more complicated? also...whats the difference between a 4cyl gas tank and a v8 gas tank?

mine start leaking due to rust hole from the plastic cover retaining water. So I dropped the tank and let the hole dry and had my way with some JB weld. And then did my battery relocation

there is a rubber seal that goes between the filler neck and the gas tank.. you can pick it up at a ford dealer for a few dollars.. its an easy fix too.. wait until there isnt much gas left in the tank and jack up the rearend of the car, you'll see where it leaking from right away.. just unbolt the filler neck and wiggle it out, replace the gasket, and then put the filler neck back in.. you may have to lower the tank alittle bit, i dont exacly remember, but if you do thats just 2 bolts where the straps meet the body of the car.. just make sure you suport the tank with something (like another jack) if you have to lower it down.. i had the same problem a few months ago and it took less than a half hour to fix.. good luck

Anytime you buy a part from the dealer ask them this "Is that the best price you can give me?" I saved 7 bucks just asking. I always ask and they usually give me a little off.

Give it a shot, the worst they could say is "Yes"

kinda shady if you ask me. people who come in and dont know any better dont get the lower end of the scale i doubt

I just had that same problem. Fixed it last night. Paid $29 for the grommet, which I think is for a simple piece of rubber. I just dropped the tank. Sucks that I had to syphon out 10 gallons of fuel.

At first I thought mine was leaking from the filler neck grommet. Upon further inspection, I found that it was seaping out of the seam where the two halves of the tank are welded together (if you dare call that welding). I had to replace the tank.

yup mine did the same only it only leaked when i made a left hand turn cuz the gasket was toast anyway yeah i ended up payin 12 bucks for mine and it was a cakewalk... if you remember to take all of the gas out of the tank otherwise when you undo that last strap you get to find out how much the gas actually weighs... this is not fun....

The 12 dollar one is for a '98. Or is there no real difference?

there's no difference. I got the one from ford and matched the part number with the one I got online. It fit perfect anyway.

So why is there the big price difference (the alpha numeric parts numbers are a letter off for the different versions)? I just want to make sure because 12 bucks is a very good deal on those, if it fits properly.

you've bought parts from a Ford dealership right? It's always overpriced but you can always find what your looking for. The gromet fits pefectly in my 89. The two do look slightly different but not in anyway that would affect anything. The outside rubber lip is a little thicker but the entrance hole is the same size. a lot of stuff on 50resto is really set at a good price. I've put a lot of my car together with products from 50resto. I was just didn't have time to wait for it to come in the mail.
