the o-ring that goes under the ring on the top of the tank.

is that necessary? my ring is kind of screwed up and it is not possible to install it again with the o-ring. i put just the ring itself on without it.

am i going to have problems? isint it just for holding the pressure on the ring basically from the tension?

given up on trying it with the o-ring, so im trying to figure out what the consequences might be without it. thanks

I would try to find a ring because as you had stated it does add some pressure as well as seal that pump assembly to the top of the tank. Mine broke while I was swapping out my pump but a new one was supplied with the new pump. I wouldnt risk having a fuel leak and having to pull the tank again.

Basically the O ring seals the top of the tank and keeps and dirt and stuff like that out of the tank. If there is one thing that doens't mix it is dirt and an electric fuel pump. Even with the intank filter if the pump sucks up ANY dirt it is history.

When I did my fuel pump I had to replace the o ring as mine was stretched out and distorted. I just went to the local auto parts store and looked through their selection of o rings they kept behind the counter.

The moral of the story is keep the o ring.

that is why they have a boot on the end....if you dont use one that is your fault.....the O-ring is to seal the tank when the fuel splashes around thats all....................without it could un down the tank and ignite on your exhaust.....then your done.............
