Gas Tank Question

I hope someone can help. When I go to fill up my car at the gas station I can't seem to get more than a dollar or so before it backs up and stops the pump. This happens when the tank is on E or more than half full. When I am pumping the gas I can hear it hissing and gurgling in the neck then it backs up and stops the pump. It takes forever to put gas in the dang thing. :bang:

This is a 02 GT 5 Speed.

Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

gas tanks are vented to atmosphere so its sounds like the vent is clogged. when you take off the cap you can see a rectangular shaped hole in the filler neck, thats one but i think theres another vent somewhere

is this at all gas stations or do you always go to the same one?

This happens at any gas station. I have tried 3 so far. I am going to get underneath it this weekend and look for any loose fittings I guess. I really don't know what to look for.

yup, my ex-girlfriend'd dad's Wrangler did that if i stuck the nozzle in too far. try adjusting it or pull it out about 1/8th inch, that will be just enough to let it "breathe"

Yeah I thought the same thing. But when I try that the same problem is there and it will hiss and bubble out of the tank a bit. I feel so stupid!...haha...it shouldn't be this hard to put gas in my car.
