i was always told that i have to run 93 im my 2000 mustang gt. the prince for premium over here is like 3.30 a gal. so i want to no what ocatane fuel should i be running and my car is stock except mid pipe and catback

If I remember right the GTs only need regular. Does it say Premium fuel only on the gauges or on the fuel door? If not with the stock tune and your limited mods the car will run better and get better mileage with regular if thats the way it was programmed from the factory.

i made the same mistake when i first got my car..i put 93 in it all of the time. about a yr or so ago i realized after i smelled the car running rich, the manual says 87. ive put 87 in it ever since and it runs a lot better..even with 90k miles

A GT's recommendation from Ford is 87+ octane ...... the 4v are the only ones they Premium is recommended..... you can run regular no problem at all..... your car might have some ping if its used to being run on premium since new but it will adjust.....

87 is over 3.30 a gallon here, so enjoy that price while is lasts.... use 87 unless your tuned for something else.

Running 87 in my 03 with no pings or problems. I agree with the above it's built from the factory to run on 87.

my car used to stall everytime i came to a stop with 87 in it and that was when i only had an o/r H and flows put 93 back in it and it ran fine since... my car would probably blow up now if i put 87 back in it

My car used to run better on 87 than 91 (the highest octane in Colorado) before the mods/tune. Now it's all premium over $3.30

Thankfully I have a gas friendly KIA for a DD.

87

Using higher octane isn't needed and is just wasting money - unless your vehicle is tuned for that.

Negative. The GT's are made to run 87, but the manual clearly states if you hear pinging use a premium gas, I dont know about you, but I think thats a hint to not put 87 in. Plus 91/93 Keeps the inside of motor clean, and will not put cruddy build up on your internal parts.

People see its as waste because its not tuned for a higher octane, I see it as a investment for a long lasting motor.....

Ive had 2 stangs in the last 6 years and never once had any pinging at all.
Ive tried premium for the hell off it...... no difference. So yeah its a waste of cash.

If there is no detonation, then it is a waste of money to run premium. No hints, just ford covering their a$$ incase the conditions are such that it is pinging. The GT is tuned to run on 87, but any number of factors could cause it to ping. Ford doesn't want to pay for a rebuild because they didn't tell people it's ok to run premium incase the engine pings.

Run the lowest octane gas that your engine can without pinging. Lower octane has a higher energy content and you can save your money for other mods.

i filled up last night with 89 and i havent heard any pinging yet and seems to run a lil better than the 93. but i did pay the same for 89 as i did 93 last week. but as long as is runs better im ok. thanks for all the the help guys
