The only gas I run in my car now is Mobil mid grade or Chevron regular grade. If I run anything else, the engine "misses"

When my car had the stock tune I ran 87, not reason to run anything else. My car was dyno tuned with the SCT Xcal2 to use 93, so that is what I use now.

92 from the day I bought it new. Shell or Unocal only (because those are the two cards I carry in my wallet )

We need to create a "Gasoline and Octane rating" sticky thread. This way, all the people who are curious about who is using what grade gasoline and why can find the answers in one thread. No need for multiple threads to eat up bandwith. For the record, I use 87 octane with all of my mods and I have no pinging or any problems at all. I also use Amsoil P.I. fuel additive to keep the gasoline and fuel system clean at every tank. It has been my experience that big companies like Exxon/Mobil, Shell, and BP tend to produce cleaner gasoline than "road side" store companies that not too many people have heard of.

I agree, I use 87 from BP, Texaco or Amoco.

In stock tune 87 is just fine, it's what Ford says to use anyway and at the price of gas why spend more if you don't have to. I have been using Hess 87 and car runs fine.

Run the lowest octane you can without pinging, this should be 87. Use quality gas, if you never do use SeaFoam when you change your oil.

And before you ask what SeaFoam is do the the search like you should have done before making the billionth octane thread

Way too much complaining

Ya know, I don't post on this website much because there a some people on here that complain if you post a question that has already been answered. Now I am no Mustang guru and have a life other than my car, so I don't know everything about it. Some people don't want to search through a ton of threads to get an answer to their questions either. I think pretty much any question that can be asked has already been covered at some point in time on here. If we didn't ask questions there wouldn't be anything to read!

No need for anything higher than 87 unless your car is pinging or if you have a performance tune like me. Performance tunes bump up timing that utilize higher octane fuel.

I run 91 since I had my car tuned. However, the day I was dyno'd I had a mixture of 89/91 in the tank in hopes that I could get away with 89 during the winter months. I wish I had an entire tank of 89 that day because buying premium sucks. I'd take the chip out, but then my speedo is off. Stock, I used 87, but sometimes it seemed like I was getting better mpg when I'd use 89.

I have to run 92 octane because of the superchip, and I will occasionally throw in a gallon or two of 110 racing fuel to clean out the injectors. Believe it or not there is alittle difference in MPG when I add the 110 octane. If you are mostly stock and are running the stock computer then run the 87 octane.

Agreed. Use the Octane that the operating manual calls for. This would be 87 for a stock engine.
