Since I had the a/c lines replaced i now I have a strong gassy smell getting into the cabin. I dunno if its related or just coincidence. But it sucks. I'm going to the dyno Monday after thanksgiving and I'd like to have er in top shape when she gets there. This is the 95 gt by the way.

Ok do upon further net research I'm betting its charcoal canister related. That won't affect drivability will it? Just be smelly?

Yea, I can't tell you exactly what to look for but I'm hoping you would know if you seen it. Someone else will chime in about worn injector rings. Sorry bro I've been a carb guy for the passed three years. Only had a few efi cars none of which I messed with injectors.

I was doing some reading about that on a Chevelle forum. Sounds like the same symptoms. I know how a cars problems can seem like the most obvious thing, than it snowballs into something crazy so for your sake I hope it is the canister. On the other hand, HOLY HELL that's alot of stuff to get that hose replaced and canister changed out. Is the only way to tell if that's your problem by changing it or is there a way to diagnose it specifically to that?

Ok so I read the part where they disconnected the hose and it says if the valve is open the idle will falter. Do I want it to be open? If I'm understanding correctly if its open then its working? I think also it'll be obd1 code 85

Yes, you want to feel a vaccum on the canister side of the hose. Remember the car should be at operating temps. There's a second test that requires a resistance test with a voltmeter. Should be between 30-90 ohms resistance. On that link it read like 8 ohms or so. So that wasn't good. The third test I didn't really understand. It was putting a 12v hot source on it to see if it opens. Bare with me as I haven't ever seen a charcoal canister, ha-ha. I skimmed through it at first as well, due to the buds.

The third test where you put 12v on it is when it's already off the car.

Bottle ha-ha not a jar. I was going to make a comment about the gas smell in my car but it being carbed with cheopo rubber lines I figured it's kind of obvious.

Eh I'm all one for letting something like that just ride but idk. I would try an fix it, that gas smell can get nauseating over time and possibly prevent you from smelling a real gas threat. Then again I liked the gassy oily smell . Damn deer
