The 90-93 cluster will not fit properly in a 87-89. Are you looking for a 140mph speedometer? You will have to get one out of a 89 GT, I'm pretty sure. I'm not sure if the 5.0 LXs had 140mph speedos in 89.

I think you can take the speedo out of the 90-93 cluster and put them into a 87-89 cluster

See http://www.stangnet.com/tech/cluster87-93.pdf for information on the wiring differences, The clusters are interchangeable, but you have to do some trimming & move some wires.

Thanks for the replies... answered what i was looking for... the wiring harness is different

Would any cluster from 87-89 5.0 work fine then?...

Yes Id like to get the 140 speedo... but right now I want anything just so i can drive it so the 85 looks like the easiest and cheapest way to go for now... since setups with 140's are going for like $175 for the 87-89 cluster ...

Yes, the 87-89 V8 clusters are basically the same, except for the 140 speedo in the 89 models.

You can put a 140 speedo from a 90-93 model in the older cluster, but the plastic mounting faces are different so you have to do some cutting, filing and trimming to make it fit. Or swap the 140 mechanism over to the 87-89 face plastic and use a 140 stick on face.

I do know someone that is parting out a 89 LX with the 140 speedo. I can put you in touch with him if you want.
