Gauge pod in mach460 cd player location?

I just replaced my mach 460 w/ an aftermarket cd player, and now I have a hole in my dash where the 460 cd player was. Does anyone make an aftermarket gauge pod that fits in this location? Or has anyone modified another pod to fit there? I know they make clock pods and such, but I think a pod would look good in this location. Thanks, Will

Ok, I just found that florida 5.0 has them, but they are waaaayyy overpriced. I think I'll make my own pod out of sheet aluminum like I've done before. To anyone who has this cluster, how does it mount in that location? It looks like there are holes in the corners for screws? Thanks, Will

There are a few companies that make them, as stated. A search for mustang radio gauge panel on yahoo or ebay should get you some good results.

Ironically, I just made this custom radio delete today, but it's for the newer large radio instead of your true double din dash setup.

I put my a/c controls down there and put the summit digital gauge kit(volts, water temp, oil pressure) up top where the a/c controls were with my radio in the middle. I LOVE it.

Alanw6- That looks great. That's about what I was thinking of making, except w/o the switches. What did you use to make it? I've used aluminum sheet metal before b.c its very easy to work w/ and bend to the shape I want.

Nmcgraw- I hadn't thought about doing it that way. It probably does make the gauges easier to look at when you want to though. Do you have a picture of it? What did you use to make the gauge pod?

Here's a pic when everything was just kinda all over the place:

I bought the Din gauge kit straight from summit. Its just like a radio but doesnt go in as deep. Its screen is black and lights up with blue digital numbers. Matches my radio and dash gauges perfectly.

I made one out of a small sheet of brushed aluminum.It holds 2 gauges. Then I just painted it flat black and it matches the interior perfectly.

5.0 Gt Kid, thanks for showing me that. That's just about what I plan on making, and it won't cost me $50 either But any pic's give me an idea of what to do.

Nmcgraw, I like how that looks w/ the hvac controls down low. When you moved the controls down, how do you mount it? I can't go out and look at my car right now, its put away. I think there are holes for bolts/screws but can't remember. Anyhow, thanks for all the help and ideas on what to do w/ the big hole in my dash. When I fix it, if i can figure out how to resize pics ill post 'em. Thanks and Happy new year! Will

Yeah Need-4-Speed is pretty overpriced on some stuff, but glad it gave you some ideas.

I made mine out of tinted plexiglass. I cut it to perfect size so it slides in tight. Here is the best pic I have

For now its just sandwiched into the slot. You could screw into it to make it solid if u want, but mine stays in place...unless i hit a huge bump then i just re-position it. No biggy at all. But there are no direct holes to re-mount...unless u make some ofcourse

Thanks. The material is pretty cool. It's called engraving plastic (1/16") that is white with a "skin" of black brushed aluminum finish. It's not real aluminum, but more of a veneer. It can be found at trophy supply stores. I used my CNC machine to make the part, and to do the engraving.

Check it out, it also comes in tons of other colors. Here's brushed aluminum:

I didn't know there was such a thing as engraving plastic. I might have to go out and looks for that and those skins. It sure does look like aluminum. If you don't mind me asking, about how much does that run? Thanks, Will

The plastic is pretty affordable.

Do a search for a company called Innovative Plastics (they make the stuff I've shown) on the web, and their site has a state-by-state dealer locator. That might allow you to track some down locally (or close to you).

Hey man can I get some more detail on this? Did you use LZ-901? I would like to make my own as well, your was quite the insperation for me . Thanks for any help.
