Gauge Question

I have a 98 GT with bolt ons (headers, o/r x, catback, pullies, CAI, alum fly...etc). I have a 3 gauge pod, just wondering what i should get.....I was thinking fuel press, trans temp, and oil temp. The other question I had was what are the pros/cons of electric or mechanical gauges.........thanks

You need to have water temp/oil temp no matter what. Because if your engine overheats and you drive it too long your engine is screwed. If you have 0 oil pressure, your engine is screwed. So those 2 for sure. Fuel pressure is a good one if you have some sort of power adder. Tranny temp is always good too, especially if you have an aftermarket tranny, or SC, etc. I would just go oil temp, water temp, and tranny temp if you have an auto. I like electric gauges because if mech lines bust in the car, sh1t gets everywhere. Busted oil line in car= no bueno. I've always like auto gauges.

+1 for electrical gauges, and ditto about the FP gauge.

If I knew I was staying N/A, I'd do oil, water, and tranny temp, just like he said above.

sorry to jump in here guys but after looking on summitracings website they have 3 temperature range guages for the transmission temp:

0-400
70-260
50-350

which would be right for a standard autobox in a 98 GT like propaganda382

Same again for the oil temp:

70-260
0-400
100-300


and the same again for the water temp:

100-300
70-260
0-300

so which is best for each? is the biggest range the best or is it the top temp that matters?

sorry again for jumping on this thread with you but i was looking at getting the same gauges this week as well as

OH and how do you fit the tranny temp guage? do you have to drill a hole in the tranny?

and mine being an auto should i have any other different combinations of guages?

Get on autometer.com and find the gauges. Summit doesn't narrow stuff down properly.

For oil PRESSURE, you want 0-100psi, electrical. I wouldn't bother with oil temp.
For coolant temp you want 100-300*, electrical.

Dunno about trans temp. I would think anything between 100 and 350 would be good.
