i'm planning on gettin blown in the future, but for now i wanna get gear. I'm pretty sure i should get 3.73's. Does that make a big difference in pull than stock? What kinda time does it cut down? I usually like to install everything myself, but i've heard of people who've done it and they have backlash problems and depth problems. How much does a mechanic usually charge for this mod?

I would say for any FI setup that you go with no lower than a 3.73. A 4.10 would probably be too much. A gear swap will make a big difference! Probably the best thing you can do to a NA car unless you do some actual motor work. Typically a gear swap will shave about .5tenths off your time if you run some kind of DR or slick. With regular tires you probably will pick up a little bit in the mph but probably not much on et b/c you will probably spin the tires a bit more. I had my gear installed by a friend who used to work at a speed shop and so he knew what he was doing and he cut me a deal. I would say a normal mechanic would probably run you about $200 for install.

Everyone around here says 3.73 if you're going to be blown later. I'm not planning on that, so I got 4.10. I like mine so far. I could actually have been happy with the 3.73 as well! The 4.10s are a huge difference.

My mechanic charged $170 for the labor, but I had to have the oil and other parts since all I had was the gear set. The total was $240, so not too bad.

I went with the 3:73 on my 03 Gt and it made a big difference. I love it. I was only charged 120.00. But I had a friend do it. It really evened my gears out. If ya'll are familiar with the tremec 3650 you know what I mean with that tall 5th gear. Gears are a must with that transmission. lol
