I went to a couple of shops and they said to make sure the carrier lines up or something like that. Anyone know if it does? They said sometimes the pinion doesnt reach with different gears or somethign idk. Also what parts should i also change when i get it done back there like gaskets, bearings etc?
Thanks

btw doing 4.10's

you have to have the corrrect pinion depth and the carrier will need additional shims on either side to make the gears mesh properly. If you don't really understand , I suggest you let a shop do them for you. You can do yourself, but this is a mod I believe you may wnat to pay for. A shop that has set up an 8.8 rearend before should charge around 200 bucks labor. depending on the mileage, you may want carrier bearings as well. hope this helps.

I agree forpit2000gt. You'll save a headache by taking it to a shop. If you still want to do it your self (I do understand) a dial caliper and some white grease in a spray can will be usefull. also here is a link to help...http://www1.autozone.com/servlet/Ui..._us/0900823d/80/1d/dd/32/0900823d801ddd32.jsp

I just picked my car up last night. Had 4.10s put in my 00' GT vert. You need to make sure they use the right shims to line up. With the 8.8 rear end the shims are .011 inch on the 00' GT. I had a new differential, gears, and all bearings replaced since they were already in there. The car drives far better now. I can't wait to get on it after the break-in period. Labor was about $250 from Chicane here in Southern Cali. I am sure you can find similar.

get a manual. it is pretty strait foward. basically you have to set you pinion depth. hopefully the factoy one will have it stamped on. then you have to set you backlash. this can mean you will have the carrier and ring gear out two to three times before the you get the footprint you want. this is the part that sucks. it is more trying on your paitence than it is "hard" to do.

short story long it is more time consuming and paitence draining than it is hard.

the link that was posted has nothing to do with ring and pinion install.

just make sure you understand what to do and take you time.

here is a link that should give you a visual understanding of what needs to be done. If you think that it is "over" you head so to speak take it in. I think you will see for the instructions it is not rocket science but it is not something that you just bolt in and drive away.
