I own a 95 GT and I was just wondering which gear ratio I have. I've heard from most peole that it is probably 3.08 but which code in the door will tell me what I have?
And also which gear should I put in it. Its an everyday driver for now I have a mac cold air intake and mac headers high-flow converters, and flowmasters. I'm looking to add a cam and new Throttle Body also. Please leave some good ideas.

The code on the door for a 3.08 is Z. 3.08 = 70 MPH and 2000 RPM in 5th.

Here's the axle code definitions:

M=2.73
E=3.27
Z=3.08

Gears: $180
Labor: $200
Speedo gear $15

Lighting the tires up through the first two gears: Priceless

lol, you might wanna buy an install kit, which includes new bearings and retainers while you're at it, since the existing ones are old and you don't wanna put them back in. the speedo gear is the gear that goes into the tranny to recalibrate the speedometer, you'll wanna replace that while you're at it, unless you enjoy racking up "extra miles".

i would count the ratio of DS turns to a wheel rotation to see - someone might have beat ya to the gears.

3.55's and 3.73's are the two most common gears to put in a 5.0. Alot of people w/ autos put in 4.10's to compensate for having an auto VS a 5 SPD. 4.10's are nice but since you said its your daily driver I would stick w/ 3.55's or 3.73's since todays gas prices are not that pleasing. The higher ratio you go the more your gas mileage goes down.

I have 3.55's and I do like them alot, I went from my stock 2.73's to the 3.55's and wow what a diffrnence, wish I had gotten it done ALONG time ago but I just had it done this past summer. Just dident have time but we picked a day and a friend and myself put them in. The car was only down for one day so it wasent bad.

Your mod list is very short, you dont need to swap out your thottle body yet. save your money for something else that will actaully make a diffrence at this point like a better intake. The stock intake is very restrective. You dont need a cam yet either, wait until you do heads and then do a cam swap at the same time. I mean you can do a cam swap now if you want b/c its your car but the common rule of thumb is to do a cam swap when you do the heads. But for now work on getting a better intake, it will be moeny well spent, spending $200 on a TB now will be a big waste, the stock TB does not become unefficent until you ad heads and a cam then most people go to a 65 MM TB, 70 MM if you go forced induction.

Gears unless you have a traction issue. If you got crappy tires, and are not planning to replace them soon, gears are gonna hurt you. The intake is gonna make a noticeable difference, but everybody does gears first, and nobody regrets it, except maybe not doing it sooner. Also, gears will NOT hurt you gas mileage in town, JUST on thehighway. Even then, I went from 2.73's to 3.73's and only lost 1mpg. In town in doesn't matter since you can just use a higher gear (i.e. 3rd or 4th). Also, the greatest factor in how good of gas mileage you get is your RFP: right foot position. lol, if you're constantly on the gas (like you will be when you first do gears), then your gas mileage will suck, trust me. Been there, done that. Striped is right about the throttle body BTW. It won't help any right now.

thats up to you, most people do gears before anything else but mine had a supercharger on it before I even did my gears.

an Intake will be more expensive but gears are harder to install, have a professional do it unless you know how to do it and you have all the proper tools.

If you get gears get them here , cheapest place for FMS gears.
