gearing different in cobra trans vs gt?

ok. i just put 373 in my car..but before that i did notice the rpms were always high in this car..it is a 95 cobra.with the 373 on the highway im hitting 3100 rpms @80 mph. at 70 it is 2800-2900rpms.. i have a 23 tooth speedo gear in.but i know those arent always accurite. but even with the 308 it was high. and that had a 21 tooth gear...all my other stangs were never this high?

GT & Cobra trannies in 94/95 were very nearly identical. The primary difference was a different style bearing between the input & main shaft, and a 10 ft-lb difference in torque rating.

To correct the speedo with 3.73's you're better off changing the drive gear so you can use a better driven gear than the 23. Since you'll be rebuilding or replacing that T-5, it will be a trivial change while the tranny is out :D. I used an 6 tooth drive gear, and if I remember correctly a 18 toogh driven gear.

That aint the only difference also the gears are coated in magnesium or something like that.
I left that out because some say they are, some say they are not (I'm talking about reputable sources, not what I have heard on the 'net). It's moot really, both versions are brittle.

that is around what mine runs with 4.10's ................ I have a cobra tranny in my car...... Someone may have put a road race t-5 in that car before you got it or something.................they have like a .85 fifth gear or so....
