Gears are installed!!

Picked up my car after work today. While on vacation I had most of the rear end rebuilt. So I figured while the shop had the rear apart it was a good time to get some new gears. So I had the shop put in some FRPP 3.73s. I thought my car was fun before the gears its even better now. There is a nice SOTP difference over the 3.27s. It’s so easy to spin the tires. Tomorrow I will see how they are cursing at 80 on the highway. Is there a break in time for gears? So far I think 3.73s are a great all around gear. I think they will be perfect for when I make even more power in the future.

Glad to hear you like the gears. I just had 4.10's installed and the difference is crazy. If you plan on going FI, you went with the right gear. I plan on staying NA for a while, so the 4.10's were perfect, but later on, I'll be forging the block and going with a KB 2.1, then I'll need to switch to 3.73's myself. I'm interested in seeing what your RPM is at 70 mph. Mine is about 2600 with 4.10's.

Atleast you fixed your rear though.
When I installed my gears the break in point was from my
garge to the street and I never had a problem with them.

I will do a few tests tomorrow to see. I also have to recalibrate the speedometer. I don’t know how much it’s off by but she sure gets up to speed in a blink of an eye. I will also try to take some videos saturday.

The speedo is a good bit off, the needle flys alot faster than your relaly going, lol.

I had my 4.10's put in a few weeks ago and the car is a rocket now. It pulls hard off the line, and it pulls hard in 5th gear now. Had it to 120 in 5th and the needle was still swinging and I had quite a bit of RPM left.

I'm interested in seeing what your RPM is at 70 mph. Mine is about 2600 with 4.10's.

3.73s w/ 4R70W (OD: 0.7:1) and 245/45/17s ---> 2391RPM @ 70mph

Programed the car for 3.73s with my Xcal this morning. Here are some speeds and RPMs

3.73s
70MPH = 2,500 RPM
80 MPH = 2,900 RPM

3.27s
70 MPH = 2,000
80 MPH = 2,400 RPM

So looks like a 500 RPM increase with 3.73s. I will do some more tests on the way home today and report back.

Actually, you'll be better off going with 3.27's with a KB 2.1. Trust me. Gears + KB = ZERO traction.

Nice. But with 3.27's you'll have greater top speed. Especially with the woeful top gear on the Tremec 5-speeds.
