Gears install

For reference, my car is a 2000 5 speed with the T45 transmission. At 60mph, I am around 21-2200 RPM.

70mph I run about 2600, and 80mph is almost dead on 3k. If you have a mid-01+ GT, you'll have a different transmission (if it's a 5 speed), and it'll have a SLIGHTLY better 5th gear in terms of cruising RPM.

If you are torn, there's always 3.90's...

With the 3650 transmission, in 5th gear, 75 mph = 2500 rpm.

I have never encountered a 3.73-geared owner who did not wish he went with 4.10.
I am one for this^.

My 3.73's are the perfect gear for a street car IMO. It offers major improvement over the stockers whether it be a 3.08 94-98 gear or a 3.27 from a 99-04. I have been in an auto with 4.10's but I agree that a 4.10 in an auto car is the way to go. But, if you are a manual, 3.73's are perfect if you plan on going FI in the future as 4.10's with a Kenne Bell would suck to get traction. A Centri blower is more doable with 4.10's but I have been in a Vortech GT with 3.73's and acceleration was silky smooth and boost came on nice and good.

Take your car to Corey at Henderson Performance in New Braunfels.

speak of the devil... i was in New Braunfels 2 weeks ago... my first time every in texas.. stayed with relatives in that town. VERY nice area.

i have the T-45 so 2600 at 70 is kinda rough.. but not absolutely terrible. I'm still torn between 3.73's and 4.10's. guess it all boils down to gas milage. and if it's only 200 rpm's off at 70 then gas wouldnt be much of a factor.

How's the exhaust drone, 2600 rpms @ 70 mph in my car would be so annoying on my long drives. I have a 4 hour drive i make a couple times a month, have you ever taken a long trip?

I assume you have 4.10's

2,000RPM seems to be the drone spot on are cars. As long as you are above that your good. I cruise at 2,600RPM (70mph) and have no drone at all. The 4.10s actualy got me out of the drone zone. An X pipe also helps the drone issue.

Will spinning the engine at 2600 rpms while cruising for a couple hours be bad for it, I like to travel and go on road trips and one time in my truck I drove for 6 plus hours at 70 without stopping.

I like to drive my car, thats why I bought it, its not a DD but a fun car. Thats why I am looking at 3.55's, because on the gear calculator they seem still fairly good for cruising.

I know everyone suggest 4.10's but I don't like them, had them in my 4x4 and will never have them again. Sorry

No, it won't be a problem. Gears also give you a lot more passing power without having to downshift. Either gear will work, 4.10's will just be more fun.
