Hey all I took a gamble and bought some gears of ebay, previous owner had them in his car and he switched to 4.10's. Is there anyway to identify the gears? will it have a brand name stamped on it? I heard the Richmond gears have a reputation for "whining" so I dont want to put these in my car

well, i know on the pinion gear for the FRPP, it should say which gear it is, which in your case is 4.10. I think my FRPP ones had a Ford emblem, but not 100% sure

I think on the head of the pinion gear, there will be some markings. I can't remember what mine said. Hopefully they start with F4ZE & are FRPP gears. It will make the installation much easier.

It should either say FMS or have the ford logo on the end of the pinion gear, it will also say what ratio it is. I bought my 3.55's off ebay about 3-4 yrs ago and just got them in a few weeks ago, I paid $100 for them which was not bad b/c gears were still in the $190 range brand new. Unless you can get used gears for one hell of a deal your better off just buying new ones b/c a brand new set of FMS gears go for $130 now.
