i have never driven a stock fox 5.0 till i purchaced mine about a month ago .. the car is in mint condition with only 30 k original ...its totally stock except for smog pump removed , bassani catless x pipe and mac mufflers and a crank underdrive pulley ... today was the first time i really got on it and tried to do a burnout .. i revved it up to about 2000 let go of the clutch stepped on the gas and i let it rev to about 4 grand before i let go but it was like dead .. it revved very quietly and the tires hardly spun .. i used to have an 89 with a full exhaust cobra intake and 4 10 gears and compared to that my car is slow as sh** lol it picks up a bit after 3 grand .. is a stock fox really that slow ??? also my gas pedal does not feel as tight as the 89 did its pretty soft ...i dont know if thats normal because its stock but i like my gas pedal a lil tight where you can feel the torque ..anyway just curious thanks guys

well what kind of fox do you have? they run in mags when rated from 14.1 to close to 16 depending on the year. i'd say around 14.5-.8 for a hatch with a 5pd, but considering pricing of the fox when it came out and other "performance" cars today, foxbody mustang still holds it own, it has its problems like many cars but still a strong contender in todays race scene.

Dumping the clutch at 2000 RPM and expecting miracles wont happen with a stocker on stock gears (assuming you have stock gears). That is the main difference between the two cars 4.10s vs stockers would make a big difference.

my motor is totally stock, no mods. only a cat back exhaust. I have 3:73's did a rearend change and t5 rebuild that's about it sofar. you don't describe your burnout method but I get great results with using my heel on the brake/toe on the gas get it up to about 2grand maybe more let out the clutch in 2nd gear and she smokes 'em pretty good. she will do 1st to 2nd smokes. before my stocker rear went she would light'em up and lay a nice strip also. I know this doesn't really answer your ?, but mine is stock and never really felt balless or slow to me. the 3:73's helped get her going alittle quicker and it feels better going through the gears.

you may be used to your quicker stang and the kick it had with the 4:10's. going from a car with 4:10's back down to the stock rear is like night and day. my buddies 89lx has 4:10's and when we switch cars it's a huge difference, I didn't really like the 4:10 that much either.

+1

The 4.10's are the reason your old car felt faster, they're really steep gears

Whats up with people knocking fox bodys lately? I'm confused.. its really that slow? When i got my fox i thought it was a damn fast/fun/light car. It was totally stock besides exhaust(even had 2:73's) and i loved it. The only reason i went up to more hp is for show/talk about it. I'll never need/use it. I mean what are you driving that it makes the fox seem SO slow? Cause i've driven everything from new mustangs to porsches. A fox is a awesome car in stock form. Unless you drive a new Z06 or a viper daily. A fox is not a slow car.

Go drive your moms honda or your dads ranger for a week and then get back in your mustang. We'll see whats slow.

I bought my car new and it was never dead even stock I could break traction easily. Gears will bring the car alive, stock 5.0's make good torque on the low end.

+1 putting the peddle to the floor will make it peel out.... Its prolly the gears, but anyway if the car he drove b4 was say an 89 and now hes driving a 93 im pretty sure the 89 will feel faster even in stock form.

People go back in forth whether the 93 is actually slower as ford changed the ratings in 93, but i don't want to start a whole thread on this topic again.

Its definently got something to do with the gears but thats just something to think about.

the 93 is rated at 205, 93's and up cars with 5.0's and exploder engines in foxes have the hyper pistons, and they are not any weaker from the factory!!!

put it to the floor, dump the clutch, blah blah buy new tires lol
