I'm looking at the various Gentex and similar mirrors out there because I want one on my car. I picked up a plain dimming one for my minivan a while back in a junk yard and it simply plugged into hidden wires above the headliner and works fine. Last week I picked up two more from the junk yard from 95-98 Crown Vics. They simply dim as well, but both have a box attached to them. One screws directly to the window mount, the other is part of the mount. None of the wiring from these boxes goes to the mirror and one has a Ford part number, but I couldn't find that number doing a Web search. Also both have reset buttons. One mirror is a GNTX-126 (looks just like the GNTX-125 in the van and hooks up and functions the same). The other is a GNTX-187 and uses a different plug behind the mirror but still doesn't connect in anyway to this box. I'm already over these mirrors from doing searches and finding the ones with compasses, temperature gauges, and even Homelink. What I'm mostly curious about right now is what these boxes are and if they are something I can use for something else. Any ideas?
