Installed an aftermarket starter with built in solenoid wired it the way it supposed to be but every time i hook up the battery cable the starter begins to engage and spin with the ignition key in the off position can is be a ground issue ?

It is not wired right. The small post on the starter is supposed to go on one side of the old solenoid by itself. The other big cable goes on the same side as the battery power wire and everything else.

Was the starter a Mini Starter or a 94 or later starter?
There are two different wiring schemes for starter wiring.
