Getting a Title for a 66 with no title.

I've searched the posts, but couldn't come up with anything. I have a 66 Mustang without a title. Arn't there companies that can help me with this. I can't seem to find any online.

You may end up having to get a title in Alabama then transfer it to your state. Neither one of you have mentioned what state your in and all states aren't the same. Some states I hear don't require you to have a title. If you have proof of purchase, you could try filing for a lost title. Having a friend that's a cop that can pull up the VIN on a police computer would tell you if it's stolen or not as well.

For myself, I live in NJ. I have a CA Salvage Title signed over to me when I purchased it. So the car is officaly mine. I can go through NJ Motor Vehicle to aquire a NJ Salvage Title but in order to change it to a Clear Title so I can register it, I need to have them inspect it first. The problem with that is they require information on why the car was given a Salvage Title, like from the insurance company that gave it the salvage tile, but that was way back in 95 and I'm not sure if I can get that info.

So.......................... I was thinking of using the Vin number of the doner car that was used to repair my car. That for sure I know is off the road and the Vin has been retired. The car has had it's front clip replaced, so the VIN from the retired car is what shows when you lift the hood anyway. So I was hoping I could use one of those Titling Services with the retired Vin.

In CA that car would be off the books, they go off the books after 7 years of no registration. You might be able to just go into the DMV and tell them that it's been sitting in your yard since 95 and you need to register it. I've seen it done before.

I'm not that lucky, this car has changed hands 3 times since it's salvage title, but thanks anyway.

Georgia does not require a title on older cars. Am sure some of the others are the same.

Hemmings has title company ads in their book. I think how it works is that you are actually selling them the car and then buying it back.

Get a bailiff to put a wharehouseman's lein on it then buy it from him for the cost of the paperwork. That's what some title sales companies or towing yards do.

Danny, that's what I'm looking for, but I don't know any company names to call. If you get a second and can look that up for me that would be great.

I deal with N.J.D.M.V. all the time....They suck..The easiest way for you to do this is http://broadwaytitle.com/
You will have to bring a pencil tracing of the vin to NJDMV with you when you get the paperwork from Alabama, it will take about a month for you to recieve the N.J.title from Trenton ,they hold it up so they can run the vin ,Hope this help's.

what states do you live in?

In Oregon, you need proof that you bought the car. Such as a bill of sale. Then file for a lost title. its something like 50 bucks.

Or you can file claim on the vehicle as abandoned. Then get a title that way.

Have you guys called the local dmv and ask about getting a title?

Use Broadwaytitle.com they can give you a title to a car that doesn't have one. You'll have to wait a while though. My friend just got his title to his 66 coupe.

Check with your DMV. My county requires vehicle inspection if the car is bought out of state. It has to be in 100% driveable condition. No cracked glass or anything. Going the title company route would be considered buying out of state. I guess they don't want people buying old cars and restoring them.

Check with your motor vehicle dept.and see if they offer bond titles. These are titles you can get if you dont have one. In Colorado I got a bond title and it cost me about a $100.00.
