Getting Parts from the US

Alright, this is kind of annoying, I'm trying to figure out how to get these exhaust parts I want. I found all these awesome prices and both of the places I wanna get my parts from will ship to Canada but I wanna try to avoid having to pay through the nose for duty and all that crap. So I was thinking about getting the stuff shipped to the US and picking it up. I've heard rumors about getting things shipped to a general delievery address and then they just hold them at the post office for you, does anyone on here know anything about this? Or does anyone have any suggestions on how to get this stuff with getting killed on duty/brokerage fees, etc.

Get it shipped USPS. I have yet to pay broker or duty. Just GST.

if you need a place close to the border let me know-there is a place south of Estevan 10 minutes(Noonan,North Dakota)-they get hundreds of packages sent there,you just have to pick them up (charges one dollar american/package)

Man just buy them here. It's ususally cheaper to just buy them at performance plus than in the states and ship them. And as the exchange goes down there prices go down too. Even buying used from the states often ends up costing more, than buying it here.

Well if you can find me a MagnaFlow "MagnaPack" Catback for $319, a MagnaFlow X-Pipe w/ Cats for $375 for a 2004 Mustang GT and a MagnaFlow Catback, a MagnaFlow X-Pipe for a 87 - 93 5.0 LX for $329 each. Then I definitely wouldn't have a problem with buying them in Canada. I've already got everything figured out anyway.

When I bought my converter I had it shipped to a guy in Plentywood.I had to pay tax on it at the border and by the time I figured in my gas money I didn't really save anything but it was better than giving it to the UPS bandits.What you should do is try to find a few more people from Regina and area that want parts and split the gas money.

See, that's funny, cause I get hosed every time I use USPS. I dunno, maybe it's because I'm in Ontario? You're SOL with regular UPS right now anyway, since they're on strike. I responded to this one, because I had pretty much the same idea. The problem I've found with driving over and picking up the parts yourself is that if they do in fact decide to search your vehicle on the way back across, how are you going to explain the trunk full of new parts? The old “I bought them at a yard sale” excuse won’t fly. Or would you be putting them on there, and tossing your stock stuff in the nim bind?

What I plan on doing, it having my buddy who lives in Michigan bring them over for me. They rarely search a vehicle that’s residing in the US and comes over to Canada. It’s just on the way back that they might get sticky. And if they do decide to search him, he was going to use the old “I’m buying a car in Canada from a buddy, but it doesn’t run, so I’m going to install my parts over there”. Even if they don’t buy it, the worst they’re gonna do is turn him around and I’ll have to pay the taxes.

Not trying to be a smart a$$ but.....USPS stands for United States Postal Service.

UPS is the big brown trucks. United Parcel Service.

USPS deals directly with Canada post. So when its sent USPS it will be delivered by Canada Post..

I handle all the Customs parcels at Canada Post here in Regina. For used or new auto parts they charge 14% taxes and a $5.00 handling fee.. All items sent from the U.S have a green label, this label is filled out by the sender, on this label the sender must declare the contents of the package and declared value..

So if you want a sweet deal, and want to hose the Goverment, get the sender to write a way cheaper declared value. Something believable. For example: if your torque converter cost you $500, and he declares $50 than thats a saving of $63.00

PS: I tried doing the cross border drop point this summer. You still have to pay both taxes at the border. So what are you saving? the only saving is the $5.00 handling fee and those couple extra bucks to have it sent 3 hours farther north. Your better off paying the extra couple bucks to have it at your door! It got way to pricey on fuel, and the lady at the border wouldn't believe my reciepts, so I got hassled and my vehicle searched. My brother even got hauled into the interigation room for questioning! This was at Port of Noonan south of Estevan. Had a couple parcels stolen from the drop point also. The only time it would benefit if you were purchasing something large enough to make it worth your while. Like a set of rims or something large!

Yup...I was aware of that. That's why I called one of them USPS and the other UPS. I was meerly mentioning that if someone was thinking of using UPS as an alternative, that they're on strike right now, and it wouldn't be advisable.

And yes, I still always get screwed with USPS. Always both taxes, and duties and then of course handling fee's. I recently ordered a 75mm BBK for my car and based on a value of $205.00, it still cost me an extra $36.00 when I picked it up. What i've found, is that if it's a brand new part, USPS might be the way to go, but if it's a used part, I can usually get away without paying taxes by going UPS. Not sure why, thats just how it seems to work out.

I'm going to have my buddy bring my next shipment over, but only because the value is well over $7,000.00. For those of you doing the math, that would be around $1,300-$1,400 taxes and brokerage fee's. I'd say that's worth a tank of gas and a hundred bucks or so in my buddies pocket. I don't mind paying taxes on something that I bought, or is manufactured in Canada, but when I can't even buy it here.....screw that. The government is a pile of crooks!

Just an idea, but if you order your parts from some place in Alberta you can at least avoid the PST and brokerage.

I tried that with the blower, but then after all was said and done, the place I was ordering it from ended up just tacking on a service fee on thier back end, and I could have gotten it for the same price they quoted. Besides, you still pay the brokerage fee, you only save one of the taxes.

Hey guys,

Just found a place here in Qc that is selling parts ( almost anything ) in US $ converted in CAN $. I guess he can ship. He offered me to ship but i choose to pick it up since he s so close to home.
For example: If you want a mid-pipe sell in the US for 250US$, he will sell you that part for 300CAN$ wich is 250$US in canadian founds.
