ok i'm getting ready to pull the 302 out of my car and rebuild. RIght now the car has an X cam, and an SVO upper and lower intake, I bought the motor used so I'm not sure on what heads are on it. I was going to purchase the kit from trick flow that includes, heads, pushrods, cam, and intake for $2200. My question is do I need the trick flow cam and intake? or will my current X cam and SVO intake perform as well with the trick flow heads? It's either rebuild this motor, or buy a new 306 for $2800. any suggestions and ideas welcome, this will be my first rebuild

The X cam is a poor choice for our cars. The TFS is much better if it's included. The Cobra intake is fine. If you had to buy the entire kit you could always sell one of the intakes. Sell that X cam to a Fox body guy.

I love the 'Help me spend my money' threads :D Unfortunately, I'm too tired to have any seriously constructive thoughts. I would offer that 4 alphabet cams welded end-to-end make a great mailbox post :nice: If you don't know what's in the motor, I'd recommend tearing it down first. Identify the heads, see if you've got any forged bottom end parts to work with and then decide how to proceed. I tend to not favor twisted wedge heads for street use. Simply because once you put the pistons in to accomodate the heads, and then it becomes a PITA if you ever want to try other style heads on your motor. Just a personal preference. And I'm partial to AFRs. Maybe I'll stop back after a long summer snooze and have something more useful to add.
