hey guys, ok another question for ya... I took my 99 cobra into the shop to have my entire rear end replaced... with the 4:10 gears etc.. Since it blew up, he said my posi is gone my gears that were in there and my housing etc..

The original price he quoted me for everything was 1520.00 That was including his labor. Today he called me and said that he got the housing from ford that was supposed to come complete with everything and it didnt and that it was missing posi Etc... and that getting it new would jack his labor plus my price up to around 2700.00.. #1 I had to do everything in my power to get his first price which I matched and now #2 no way in hell I'll be able to pay this amount. So I was curious what you guys think on this subject.. am I being ripped or is all of this accurate pricing and I should shut up go pick my car up and let it sit in my drive way for a year getting rained on..

Thanks

Sounds like a pretty stiff one to me. hopefully you'll get a reach around. Just kidding. I haven't had to replace an entire rear end, just swapped gears. What kind if price list has he given you? I would imagine you could get super aftermarket stuff for that kind of cash. I would expect better than factory atleast. You don't happen to live in southwest mo. do you? I could get that deal beat probably. Good luck!!! chris

checkout fordpartscheap. I found an axle assembly for your car for 293.00 Maybe if you ordered everything seperately, it would add up, but surely there is a way around that.

Yeah, you're definately getting robbed on that deal...way too much money IMHO.

I would either have it towed home or to a competent shop that isn't going to price gouge you if working on it yourself is not an option.

You might want to check out the following places as well for pricing info:

Does that include a lifetime of dates with his wife? If not, then bend over or take it somewhere where they know what they are doing.

I would have him do a written esitmate (in writing) desfribe what is to be done. See how fast things change when you ask for this. If he gives it to you take it to a couple of other places and see whats up with it.

If you didn't sign any paperwork allowing the work, chances are it's his responsibility to put it back the way he found it. This is the way mechanics **** people. Don't let it happen to you.

That sucks. My friend got his whole rear end rebuilt with new 31 spline axles, traction lock, shim kit, and 4.10 gears for $400 dollars labor. He bought all the parts himself.

Man...you should have just had him put all the parts in the trunk, paid him for dismantling it and get it towed the f out of there and tell him he could kiss your ass on the way!

He treated you like a woman dude..and you didn't know any better...in fact that's how he knew just what to do. You really need to learn a little about your car and NEVER take it anywhere before YOU first research a little.

You brought this upon yourself but he is a crooked ass son of a bitch nonetheless.

Sorry dude.

Man....I would STOP this process like TOMORROW...he is just stealing your money...and a lot of it at that! Whatever dude...just hate to see stupidity when it costs someone here so much!

man, you got ripped. if nothing is in writing, don't pay. he broke his deal by not getting a complete posi, so know you aren't liable for anything.

For that price I could ditch my IRS and buy me a whole rear end from FRPP 31 spline axles, traction lock, upper and lower control arms, shocks, springs, and a new catback.

If you would of posted a thread with what happened to your rearend before you went to that krook, I could of told you that buyfordracing.com and other websites sell the whole differential assembly(pumpkin) with 3.73 gears already in there for your 99 IRS for $500. Then all you would have to do is put it in and your done.
