The Maaco where I had the Fairlane painted is having a big sale ... essentially it is $340 for minor body work and 3 coats of paint.

I'm going for it ... staying black. It will freshen up the old faded paint on my stang. It will also give me something to do with the car while waiting for the new K-Member to arrive.

Will it be the best paint job ever? Not even close.
Will the car look 100% better? No question about it.
At $340, is it a good value? I think so.

After that, all I'll need is to get the seats re-covered and it will look good inside and out. I won't want to sell it (it will finally be nice again!), but it is what I have to do to keep the wife happy, and have the funds to finish the Fairlane. I bet it'll sell alot faster and I'll get more for it with new paint and seats.

Sounds like a great deal, and IIRC, don't they have a warranty against defective work? If so, wouldn't that mean that you could go back in if you notice anything that's not up to snuff and have it corrected?

I dropped it off over lunch ... it is not quite the $340 I was hoping

The front bumper is gonna take 5 hours of work, and there are probably 10 little dings around the car. All told, for the labor for everything (14 hours) is adding $550 to the price, putting it at $890

I'm doing it anyway.

He also has a couple who does upholstery who can recover the seats (or maybe individual panels) for a very reasonable price. More on that later as I find out about it.

this in the "presidential" ... they call it "durablility plus catalyzed enamel"

you know, i am seriously considering that. one way or another, one black convertible with a big motor has to go.

That's a tough choice...even being a young guy in college, I have always lusted after muscle cars.
Even so, our cars are cheaper, easier to find parts for, and more fun to drive cuz you don't have to worry about them as much. If I was in your spot, I'd probably sell the Fairlane even as much as it hurts...

idk, that's just my .02. Good luck with whichever sale and glad to hear the stang's gonna be getting a facelift!

WOW!! Chris your car looks incredible! Everything about it. I really like the looks. Even the rims look better..I can't explain it. Did you change the tires or something? Also, your front end sits up higher than mine and I like that too.

Looks good man. Wheel spacers would do alot for the look. I'd also bring the front on down a little.

looks really good! so its a single stage paint right? Thats what I was looking to get for my car. How was the quality of the paintjob(any overspray, etc)? I've heard both good and bad things about Maaco.

It depends on the maaco as they are all different and independently owned.

The Prez. job is not bad...buddy had his F150 repainted at a good local Maaco and it came out great. He did all the prep and just had them spray it.

That looks GREAT...and for under 1k if it only lasts 2yrs you still made out on the deal IMHO.

I am just saying...even if it only lasts 2yrs for round about $800 that is not bad for how it looks now.

It is probably single stage enamel. There are some really durable singe stage paints out there. It just depends on what its over and how its done as to how long it will look that great...it could start to peel, chip, show thin spots, or dull and look like crap sooner than a 3-4k job...at the cost he paid and how it looks...nice deal.

Under a k is killer, congrats. I just spent 3500 with a hook-up to have my 62' taken down to bare metal and painted. I think yours will look great and am looking forward to seeing it, but sucks you may have to sell one of your rides.

Edit: Ha, 1st read this thinking you were having the fairlane painted forgetting that it already was a while back.

yeah it's the presidential. single stage, not base and clear. i think it turned out well for the money, especially the front bumper. you may remember how it was before .... geez it was stupid looking.

thanks for the compliments guys ... the k-member comes in next week so it will be on the road again soon.

also, the maaco guy connected my up with an upholstery guy who is good and not expensive. i think i'll probably have him do my seats.
