First off I am to the forum and it so far looks great.

Now to the fun stuff. I have a 1994 mustang that I have made into my project car. This winter is when the magic will happen but I need your help. I have got all the exterior parts (body kit, hood, rims, tires, headlights, taillights, vertical door kit) bought already. But I need some help when it comes to the engine, tranny and performance over all.

Here are my plans my neighbour has a friend who has a Ford 429 block that he is going to sell me. So I need some help picking out a good tranny and parts for the 429 to make some serious power. OR do i go a different route? With a 351? This is where i need some help. I am looking to have around the 550 to 600hp+. (and reliable and strong)

I need to do all the research I can so all and any help would be great.

Thanks for the help.

If you want to build up a 429-460 keep an eye on the Network 54 385 motor forum. There are some very good engine builders who post there and a lot of information can be gained by doing a search or just lurking. There have been many engine combinations discussed there that make the horsepower you are looking for. http://www.network54.com/Hide/Forum/85220 You also might want to check out the Big Block Fox website http://fordifiedracing.homestead.com/bigblockfox.html If you keep an eye on Ebay and the Network 54 classified boards things like headers, mounts, oil pans can be picked up fairly reasonable.

Or have a look at the Ford Racing crate engines for ideas http://www.fordracingparts.com/crateengine/bigblock.asp

351LX is right, and a strong reliable 550-600hp is possible with a big block. Just be ready to dish out some cash, spend extra time and make some oddball stuff fit if you go the big block route. A 351 is alot easier and can still make 400+ hp easily and reliably.
Just my 2 cents.
