I already have an 01 GT lightly modded. I've always wanted a 5 spd fox notch or hatch. I was hoping somone could help me with some general knowledge.
What years are better? I am trying to limit my search to 1989-1993 fox's. Here are some questions I have..

How much lighter is the notch to the hatch or is it?
Stock hp and tq at the flywheel?
Gear Ratio?
Disc brakes all around?

If you can think of anything else that might be helpful please insert it!

keep it 89-92.. keep the forged internals. Notch is what probably 120lbs lighter? Im guesing on that one. Hp is suppose to be abour 220hp. No disc is only in the front. Stock gears are 2.73, get some 3.55-4.10

I would stay 1989-1992. Notch preferably. There is an option for 3.08:1 gears called gear code Z. I have that gear code, but want more, i.e. 3.73:1.

Look for a grey oil pan, (these are the forged piston engines)

Get a black interior if you can, they look better, and people want them.

1993 Cobra has disks in the rear, and a bumped up HP rating. 24Lb. injectors, Cobra Intake, 65mm TB.... etc.

For the fun factor, get a T5 manual 5 speed. :nice:

I've always been partial to the LX body style, as the GT seems too flamboyant and is just additional weight.

I also particularly like '89 because it's the last year of tilt steering (no added weight w/ air bag system) ... plus if you find a late '89 it will be a 25th ann model. However, I like the '92 & '93 because the thick body moldings match the body color.

A notch is less common and more desireable than the hatch and therefore typically yields a higher sale value. Plus again, weighs a little less.

hp/tq = 225/300 rated.

Most foxes came with 2.73's ..... with 3.08's a typical option for T5 cars and 3.27's for the AOD cars. I recommend 3.55's unless the car is purely about performance, then pull the A/C and go steeper :)

As far as four wheel disc ... you have to buy aftermarket, and it is highly recommended to do so ... the FRPP M2300K is very popular, but sets you back $1900 and gets you 5 lug as well, so you have more wheel options.

The best advice I can give you is to be picky ... take your time and buy when you're ready ... I know it's hard to say NO sometimes, but make sure you are completely satisfied and not compromising when you throw down your hard cash. You get what you pay for ... not a penny less, not a penny more :nice:

OK, there are some basics that you need to know about prior to making your purchase... Please read the thread below for my (and others) sugguestions about buying a Fox and what to look for. The things listed will help you make a better purchase (or at least let you know what you are getting into before hand)

As all the others have mentioned

Stock HP = 225
Stock Torque = 300

Get a T-5 because the AOD's are dogs when they are stock

Good Luck! and one day, I will type this all out and maybe we can get a sticky out of it to make it easier for people to learn about these cars.
