Are you not touching the drivetrain b/c of warranty issues?

1.) I understand, been there, it's better when you finish college and can afford to be on your own
2.) Gears will probably not affect your gas mileage much at all, you can check past threads.
3.) Gears, if installed correctly, are very reliable if you replace with Ford factory replacement gears. Besides, Ford can only refuse to fix the mod you change. They will still fix the engine, A/C, radio, etc., anything except the gears you put in. I'm suprised that your parents don't understand that you already have a sports car, and of course you want to make it faster

get a chip from reinhardt racing. They're the best. Same as fordchips.

That would be the simplest since IF anything went wrong and you had to take it in for repairs, you could just pop out the chip. Also, a shifter won't void your warranty either and that makes a big difference.

Then pulleys aren't engine because they're accessories. I would think Ford is much less likely to give you problems with pulleys than a chip.

The best day for your car is the one where you say "screw the warranty."
