I got an email this morning from a Talent Scout for Google. They are looking for software developers and I guess something on my resume caught their interest.

He was looking to fill a position in California, and when I told him that relocating was not an option for me, I was worried he was going to say he was sorry and that would be the end of it. Instead, he said they had offices in the DC area also and that they are hiring all around the country, so he will contact a DC hiring manager to talk to me.

Now I have a questionaire to fill out.

Damn I wish I went into computers instead of airplanes. My last interview was 2 days long. After the first day, you go to a hotel room (which you have to pay for), and then call this phone number after 8pm. It answers with an automated recording that repeats off the last 4 digits to social security numbers. If you dont' hear your number, you are not invited back for the second day of the interview. They don't even want to waste a stamp to tell you that you don't have the job. Oh, and the application was 32 pages long.

Unfortunately, their DC office is very small and not the sort of development shop that would be able to use someone like me, so my relocation constraint is probably a show stopper. Oh well.

Our company is trying to get us all to buy into that HSA healthcare plan. I've had that before, I'm not going back to that.

Rant on....we went from paid dental/health to HMO's to this one to that one and every year I get boned more...I pay 100.00 a week for medical alone now and then have to pay a 25.00 co-pay. I then get the bill from the insurance and they paid like 4.00 of a 250.00 bill...W.T.F. is that all about.

My wife goes to a doctor and gives her our card and they say Ewwww...most people don't like this company... I work for a Fortune 500 company to boot... Stockholders get paid and we get laid...go figure. Rant off.

Don't get me going....

Yeah, it's the same here too. My insurance costs way too much every month, and I have a really high deductible to boot. So much for the "affordable health care act" (aka Obamacare).

He said there are openings in Pittsburgh, but that is still 4 1/2-5 hours away, so it is still not feasible.

Oh well. It was nice dreaming about it.

That ObamaCare really doesn't help you at all until 2014. Then insurance should be more affordable, because they'll have to do this thing called...ah...compete.

Its my money, and I want it now! Sorry, couldnt resist Kurt. Chris, sorry the google gig didnt pan out. Cant think of another company that so many people dream to work for. I guess I dont, since I know nothing about computers. But from what I hear, they pay people to do next to nothing while working in amazingly distracting environments. Maybe I would fit in after all.

It turns out that the DC office, who only has 10 people, wants to talk to me after all.

So the saga continues ....

Goog pays man...a co-workers buddy from collage works in CA (San Fran IIRC) and makes a good living (granted stuck in San Fran...but at least he can afford San Fran). The work enviornment is just like none other.

Good luck with the situation.
