got a short block....now what?

can anyone list all the parts one needs to get for an engine when they already have a short block.
I am considering getting a short block already assembled with just the rotating assembly. What else do i need......heads, radiator, intake manifold, etc.?

I would start with a book. There is way too much you need to for use to walk you through it.

i've read all the books, i just wanna make sure i am not missing anything when i am trying to figure out what all the costs will be.
there are not that many anyway.........

assuming block, crank, rods, and pistons assembled, you need heads, cam and valve train, oil pump, oil pan, valve covers, intake, exhaust, carb(or efi), waterpump, timing cover, balancer, flywheel or flexplate, nearly every bolt in the engine, and gaskets. thats all i can think of right now(been up too long today to think fully).

And it is not just a matter of bolting it together. I would suggest serious consideration of a finished long block.

Now, if you are looking at the 460 World small block [as am I!!!], it's either a crate engine or the short block. I am not in love with the heads that engine comes with. However, this is a package that is setup to work together, and would really be sweet in our cars.

Time is a consideration. Just dropping in that 427 or 460 crate motor sure would be fast and easy. In my case, I think that the $$ would be better spent than the time in trying to do everything myself. Been there and done that when I was young. YMMV.
