Luckily for both of you that there wasn't an SRT-4 in the mix

3.90's or 4.10's and a T/A to go with Steeda Pullies, and practice launching your car. That's a great start.

I disagree with this statement, and provide this piece of anecdotal data to serve as a blanket assumption covering all races between 99+ GTs and 96-98 Cobras...

Clicky clicky

EDIT- Well, crap. The thread is still alive but the vids are no longer being hosted so they're dead. Oh well. He smoked all three of those cars, with the most satisfying being the last because the guy red-lighted like crazy and still got pulled hard.

On a more serious note, there is at least a 20-30 rwhp difference between the most stock 96-98 Cobra and stock 99+ GT. The low end torque advantage of the GT is only going to matter if both cars are launching from idle, which would be pretty foolish. 20-30 rwhp shouldn't provide too big of an advantage (only 2-3 lengths over a full 1/4 mile) and can be overcome easily with some mods to the GT. Nevertheless, stock for stock the Cobra will come out on top assuming equal driving...

If you could hook up better you would definately do better from a stand still. For that get some nittos and lower control arms. If you are looking for more HP quick and easy, then maybe a plenum and throttle body combo. That adds about 10 HP and torque. Neither of these mods will effect your chosen path of HP whether it be N/A or power adder. When you start thinking T/A, headers, heads, and cams, then you are effecting long term choices...

Something to think about!

thanks for the replies guys. i think i'm going to practice a little more off of a dead stop and get a new throttle body and plenum along with a timing adjuster, and then i'm going to go race him again. by the way my tires are nitto 555's, and only have about 5,000 miles on them.

I totally forgot to add the mods to my post. I was so disappointed at the videos being dead that I blew past it.

The T/A is a must-do IMHO if you have the pulleys and don't want to pay for a chip yet. Gears are also insanely popular because they work so well. My old 99 GT was a blast to drive with basically the exact combination you have plus the gears and T/A....

key in having a fast car on the street is traction, worry about getting some stickier tires, LCA, right spring/shock combo and that right there should help out alot!

traction will make you look like you are a lot faster than you really are.
