1967 "C" Code Dark Moss Green Coupe, black interior, turn signal hood, factory AC (ice cold).

It was the show car I mentioned which the guy wanted 12K for, but I got it for 9K cash. It's completely original and unrestored, except for a paint job (original color) 8 years ago, new battery, radiator, and exhaust. It has a rebuilt FoMoCo 2V carb, but he gave me the original carb in a box. Original AM only radio (works). The frame rails and underbody are in great shape (look almost new, actually). Original owner's manual in the glove box, and original California black plate on front of car.

He showed me all the trophies and photos of the car at different shows. Last one was last November, first place "stock daily driver." The guy was 77 years old, and said it was just getting too much for him.

My first question:
Last night in the garage I noticed a strong gas smell from the engine area. I didn't find any fuel pooled on the intake manifold (this happened to me once in my first 67 Mustang). I sniff-tested the rest of the car, and there is no smell at all at the rear, only from the firewall forward, it seems. Any suggestions as to what this might be?

I will now take this opportunity to give a very polite HELL YEAH!!

Congrats!! I have no idea on the fuel smell...if there are no leaks, maybe look to see if the carb is dripping fuel INTO the engine while sitting?

Thanks. I'll look into that tonight. So far I only looked around the carb on the intake manifold.
I don't remember my first 67 smelling so strongly of fuel, but I also kept it outside (the horror).

I was thinking about that. But if it were running rich, wouldn't there be a strong gas smell at the tailpipes, too?

That is not rare as all are mounted behind the firewall. Now if it was mounted in front of the firewall....
