Ford Racing Shorty's

I can't wait to put them. They are steel uncoated, I figure i can wrap them later. The welding doesn't look that great but then again they were only $320.

Ford Racing (part #M-9430-S197) I bought them from Sean Hyland Motorsport & and loved the quick service. cost $320.00

Has anyone mentioned you might need the Steeda Motor mounts ? The reason is that the stock mounts are very soft and it lets the engine go off center. So, either you will NOT be able to mount the header beuase they hit the steering linkage OR they will mount and when you gas it, the headers may hit the steering linkage.

Check into it and be ready to order them @ $260

That is the reason I decided not to install my JBA headers.That and the lack of power they produce.Let us know though if you are able to install them without any further modifications etc.Then if they work I may consider getting some of those if I don't have to spend more $$ to install them with extra parts

Yeah, I was curious about the motor mount problem also. I wanted to install the JBA longtubes until I heard there were problems w/ the installation..

I've seen posts on other forums saying they go in without modifications, but I don't think anyone has tried yet. Let us know how long it takes. Also post the results if your planning on dynoing it before and after. I'm really intrested, because these are the ones I'm planning on getting too.

Got the shorty's on today

I put them on today It took me all of 8 Hours. I did not take the steering column out even the the instructions said too. I took my sweet time as I was not in any hurry at all. I gusee if I rushed it I could have save a couple hours. I put them on in my garage on the floor (so no lift makes it tougher on the back & neck) For all people who are going to put them on make sure you have a very very tiny wratchet and a 5mm socket to get the studs out. and you will need a 13mm open ended stubby wrench. I did not have to take the motor mounts off or the starter.
I did have to take the h pipe off. the direvers side header come off and goes on up top and the passanger side comes off and goes on from underneath. Oh yeah the key to no taking off the steering colum was leaving one stud off the header then putting it on from underneath the car & leaving the O2 sensor off until the header was bolted on.
The hardest part of the whole project was getting the O2 wires back on - that sucked and took tons of energy & time.
Its all back to 100% and I know you want to know how they sound so here goes.

They sound ok, a little tingy in 2nd gear at 4k - over all not bad. I think some mufflers would help improve the sound. I can tell the engine does have less of a restriction and pull's about 300k more rpm (has more power in a range it didn't have before). I'm not sure how much weight I saved but best guess about 40- 50 lbs.

so all seems well with these?..no hitting the steering column or anything else from engine vibration or ?

If the fit is that good and there are no issues as you claim I will order a set to replace the JBA's I decided not to install due to above issues I mentioned....thanks

There is plenty of room around the steering column. The passanger side is a little tight. I don't notice any vibrations (yet) I need to climb back underneath and re check everything but I think it's fine. I wish I would have seen the MAC's in person to compare quality. I bought the FRPP over MAC based on the design since the MAC does not have the long flang. I wish the welding was cleaner on the FRPP.

Are these shortys smog legal.

I was wanting to go with the JBA shorties until I heard about the motor mount isue. So now Im looking for alternatives, but because I live in CA it has to be CARB approved.

Yes they are smog legal but I'm not sure if they are specficially CARB approved. The drivers side has the tap for the O2 sensor and I switched it over no problem.

The sound is a little quirky to me as this is my first modular motor. It's almost like it wants to be a big block but can't make the sound. The make a flutter sound with out the growl, a tingy flutter is the best way to descibe it. The performance is well hard to say since I didn't dyno it. I can tell the car pull about 300 more rpm in a range that was previously flat to negative. Not a huge gain but it should gain plenty as I bolt on the saleen supercharger next week.

2nd that.... I plan on having the dealership throw on a set before I pick up the car, I would like to get as much done through them so I can hopefully avoid warranty problems in the future.

Did you do this with the stock exhaust?
