in the estimate, theylist a used bumper cover for $281.25.
i can get a bumper cover for much cheaper.

can i buy the cheaper bumper and take it in to them to install it and pocket the differance?

for the axle shaft & quad shock,i got that covered :nice:

with some shops, if you take parts (that they could order themselves) to them to have installed they will charge you a fee for not using their parts.......

but, with the money,do i HAVE to have the car repaired?

Once you get the insurance check it is yours to do with what you want. You are not required to meet any obligations. Make sure you have the car inspected closely for any hidden damages if you plan on using the money to fix it because as stated before once you accept the check thats all you will get out of them. You are just being paid for the damages done be the other insured driver, how you spend it is at your will. I took mine and ordered all aftermarket parts and paid a third party never involved in the estimate process to paint my whole car. Good luck and no matter how you do it you almost always come out ahead.

Right on....the insurance company has nothing to do with it, hell, you could keep the money and never fix your car...you can take it to Joe Bob's repair shop....it doesn't matter.......fix what you can......buy any parts you can and find a body man that will give you a deal on the quarter and whole paint job........once you get the check in your name......the insurance company is out....:nice:

I drove around with a dented quarter on a vert cav that a neighbor backed into when in college.....car was parked.....it was one of 3 cars so I kept the check from the insurance company and never fixed the cav...it was a beater anyway........:hail2:

fixed the axle shaft, had a spare laying around the garage.
cost me about $20.(gear oil, gasket, and friction modifier)
took an hour and 45 mins.

the quad shock i just left alone.

i kept the cash,in the process of replacing the 1/4 panel myself.

due to the recession, everyone's hours at the shop i work at got cut.8 hrs less a week:(

might as well put that extra time to good use:)
