I'm planning on doing the standard Granada swap and managed to finally find a Granada in a salvage yard not too far from me. My question is: If the Granada has power brakes, can I still use the master cylinder and the booster on my non-power brake '65 coupe? From what I've read, it seems that the manual brake MC from the Granada is a direct swap. If it has power brakes (which I'd really like to have), can I use it, and if so would I need an adjustable push rod, or is there a correct length already out there? (The one from the Granada? )

Thanks!
Grant

My .02

Well my opinion is I would not use a junkyard M/C or Calipers...

You do, and it fails...was it worth saving 60 bucks?

Go buy a new not reman M/C you can find many examples on the net as to which ones work well...

Search the web and find the info...

OK, I should probably clear up that I wasn't going to use the master cylinder directly. I was just going to use it as a core (whether it was power or manual). Same for the calipers. But if the Granada has power brakes, and that's not going to work at all for me, then I won't bother pulling it while I'm there...

The core value for both the Granada MC and calipers are so low that if you buy them in a salvege yard simply to have cores you will more than likely loose money. Just go get rebuilt calipers and MC (you are right, the manual MC is a direct swap) and pay the few dollars extra for not having a core. Last time I bought Granada calipers the core charge was like $3 each.

OK, thanks! I didn't realize the core was that little.

As far as the power MC, is that a direct swap also, assuming I use the correct push rod? Or should I just get a power brake conversion from someone like MustangDepot?

Sorry for all the questions in a row, but I'm heading down to the junk yard right after work and just want to be prepared...

The only thing that I think that you really need to grab from the car are the spindles, the hardware that secures the rotor and caliper, the splashshield, and the proportioning valve. In my case I didn't have access to a proportioning valve so I bought one from Wilwood. As for power brakes, I don't think you will need them. I have the stock 15/16ths bore MC from the Granada without power and it is fine. The power brake are just and added expense that isn't really necessary IMO. I bought slotted roters, $99 per pair on EBAY from the Mustang Depot. Calipers and brake lines I bought from a local store.

Good luck.

Backing up Monk. I agree with him. I have a non-power MC Granada setup in my '70 and it works fine. I think the reman MC cost me $18. Pretty cheap stuff. The bearings are about $2 each also.

For the brake lines I bought preflared lines from the local autoparts store and bent them myself. I was worried, but it was much easier than I expected. You will have to move the location of the fittings that attach to the flexible lines at the front wheels. The flex lines aren't long enough to attach at the stock locations.

Good luck.

Sounds like I might just stick with manual brakes then (for now, at least). Thanks for all the help!

If you are grabbing parts off of the Granada, get the outer tie rod adjustment sleeves too. That way the outer Granada tie rods will mate up to the inner mustang tie rods a little easier.
