Great, I'm in a heap of trouble now....

Just what I need, another project!

Its a 1984, 107k, and I just dragged it home a few hours ago. I still need to decode the VIN to see all the nitty gritties. It has a number of nagging things wrong like no working heat or A/C, leaky VC gasket, and some beat up interior items, but it goes down the road with as much punch as my old '89 GT. It probably cost too much, but isnt that what hobbies are for?

awesome, im working on getting my 85 SVO soon. a friend has it that he will sell to me soon

the interior is great, 117k miles, and everything still works. just needs a wash/wax job and a new hood latch

Thanks. My '89 GT was white and it DEFINITELY needed A/C. The SVO will be 10x worse. I dont usually go for dark cars, but you kinda have to take whats available if you gotta have an SVO. Your TC has more insulation and luxury features. My '68 is an icebox or oven because it also has no climate control.

It really is. There are only a couple actual dings; the rest is from age.

I'm still suprised at the power to weight and how it feels. I thought it had alot of power on the test drive......then I filled it with premium and flipped the fuel switch . And to think this is just a stock 175hp/210tq engine.

Its too bad Ford North America's turbo performance era ended in the late '80s.

Well my TC is a dark colored car (dark red)...you still freeze your ass off on cold days (which is why I stop driving it once it starts going below 40) and it gets really hot on hot days. But, I don't feel like replacing the heater core, so whatcha gonna do, I just deal with it.

Its like changing one in an '87+ Mustang, isnt it? I did that once and swore I'd never do it twice.

Good Grab! And the bottom line is you always pay too much for them. But if you get what you want it is a good deal!

Thanks. The more I find wrong with it, the more I overpaid.

Now I have to see if it will go through smog with some really bad valve seals and original corroded plug wires/cap/rotor and a bunch of messed up engine harness wires.

That's how the story pans out! A buddy bought a 65 A code fastback about 10 years ago the same time I got my 64.5. He was giving me crap about the fact my car needed everything. ( the roof and part fo the driveshaft tunnel is original!)
He paid like 10X what I paid for my car.
Well it turns out someone had laid tin in the floors (old water heater actually) and undercoated it at some point. The rear frame rails and trunk floor was more of the same.
In the end he had to replace just about everything I did.
Guess who's Getting the crap now!!!

As well he should .

Luckily 99% of the cars here only have surface rust or none at all. I see the cars that alot of people in the rust belt consider "worth saving" and I can only shake my head. Then I see the cars that just cannot be saved and am like .

Mine passed smog, BTW. Just barely, but it did. I figure I'm going to slowly restore this one and either get a Pinto and do a TC driveline swap(pre smog, its the only way here in CA) or deal with the smog and get an '82-83 Mustang foundation for the swap.

I actually dont mind changing the heater core out in the fox body mustangs I get.

But I guess that's mainly because I use that time to also go through the dash harness and replace all the seals, etc in the heater box and clean all the built up crud out of it and such.

I hate hacked up wiring harnesses the absolute most in my cars.

Its 22 years old, actually.

The '84 is actually the second newest Mustang I've owned right behind my previous '89GT. The oldest was my previous '65 notch, and the next is my '68. My dad is playing with a pair of '57 Custom 300s, a '60 Ford panel truck, and a '42 Ford dump truck. We're no strangers to old cars needing work. :SNSign:

My '68 needs a heater core also and needs most of the underdash to come out too....thanks to the factory A/C.

Yeah, you all know I'm serious .

Going on SVOCA for more than two seconds will let anyone know how popular the "part-out" angle is among enthusiasts.

I hate to admit it, but I probably drive more carefully in the SVO than I do in the '68..........well, maybe I drive carefully for different reasons. I'm careful in the SVO because I don't want the car to get wrecked. I drive the '68 like that because the car is still somewhat replaceable, but a crash would probably kill me.
