Well we grenaded the trac-lok in the bullitt on saturday (upper and lower spider gears and side spider gears, one broke in half other stripped all the teeth off of. Side gears were in turn chewed up.) The axles and the ring and pinion are still good. I was wondering what you guy would recommend for replacement diff. Also do you think we should get some new axles or the old ones will be ok? It runs around 8.0-8.1 in the eigth mile.

Thanks:SNSign:

Also we would like to be able to race this weekend so if we can get a good setup with 28-spline it would save alot of time as far as seals and bearings. Thanks guys keep the opinions coming!

If you are running on sticky tires I would upgrade to 31 spline.

31 Spline FTW! Really, just do it now while you're in there. Maybe an FRPP 31 Spline Trac-Lock, they're rebuildable and pretty tough from what Ive read while researching the same question. Also, FRPP axles seem to be pretty strong too, made by Superior out of 1550 Steel as opposed to 1541 from other axles. Still not sure if I want Moser, FRPP or Superior, but Im just letting you know what Ive found while researching rear-end components.

Currently we dont have a press available at our disposal and living in BFE makes the nearest machine shop about 45 min away. What do you guys think the limit is for the stock axles? Also does anyone like the PowerTrax diffs?

I really would upgrade to 31 spl axles while you have it apart. Only a matter of time until you break one then your 28 diff you just bought wouldn't work with the 31's...so you might as well do it right the first time.
Moser 31/Auburn Pro here with no issues.

Who sells an axle kit that comes with the bearings, seals, and lugs all together. We really want to be able to race this weekend. 28 spline or 31 doesnt matter long as we get there.

http://store.summitracing.com/defau...eywordSearch&DDS=1&N=115&target=egnsearch.asp

If Im not mistaken they come with a 5yr warranty eek: I know, I said the same thing. A warranty on aftermarket axles? ) The only thing is I was told it took the person 5 months to get new ones. (his broke after 3.5 yrs and a butt-load of launches from high rpms on DRs and then Slicks) This is bc you have to send them back to Summit and then they do whatever they do through Superior to get new ones. Of course you would need new axles (should they ever break, not saying these will do that. ANY axle can break) so you buy new axles, and when the replacements come you can sell them. Just a thought.

EDIT: well that link wont take you right to what Im talking about, but you can navigate your way there. Just click FORD, then 8.8", then Mustang, then whatever year your car is. Or in your case its Part Number SAG-EV84 for an 02.
