GT-40P Users, help needed.

Do I need to get different headers for these Explorer heads that Im getting? I have Bassani Equal Lengths now.

They should bolt up but you will probably run into problems changing spark plugs. It will kinda suck having to pull a header to change a plug! But the only way to know foresure is to give it a go.

The only 2 headers that are a guaranteed fit for P heads that I know of are the FRPP shortie headers and MAC headers I believe that they make a shortie and LT header that will fit p heads.

All of the headers will physically fit it is just a matter of plug location. Some guys have been able to get by with 90 degree boots and shorter plugs. But it can make tune up time a bear.

I got a set of FRPP ceramic headers off of ebay for about $150 shipped.

If you have the heads in hand one thing that you could do would be to take the headers you have now off and test fit them on the P heads and see if you can make them work or not. Sure you'll have to take them off but it beats getting it all together and then finding out.

Also remember that the stock plugs for the E7 heads will not work in the p heads. You will need a set of 765s I believe. I run autolite 104s with the nitrous set up I have and they are the next colder plug. Let me know if you have any questions on the install. Been there done that.

if you have the time test fit them and see how difficult it would be to change the plugs. any header for a 302 will bolt up but the #7 plug is going to be a little tuff to get at with most standard headers


im running the BBK shortie headers with my P heads and to change the #7 plug i had to get a little creative with my plug socket

When I put my P heads on I used the TFS spring upgrade kit for iron heads. It is part #TFS-2500100. It includes everything that you should need, springs, retainers (they are specific to exhaust and intake), locks, seals, shims and an intalled height checker ( it is 1.8" long and you use it to determine if you need shims and how many so that your spring is at the proper installed height)

Pretty easy to do if you have basic mechanical knowledge. Heck even I did it and my car runs and doesn't use oil. At least I got that right.

MAC full lengths will fit no problem and you can change the plugs just fine. Probably most full lengths will do fine because they usually come straight out from the head, unlike shorties and equal lengths.

hey jesse not to hijack your thread or anything, but it has evoked a couple questions from me

i just got a set of E/L shortys that i will be running with my stock E7's until i can get $ saved up for an H/C/I setup. will my headers make changing plugs a ******? i never even thought about it until now, haha.

The Ford Racing headers say they will fit stock E7's, GT-40 and the P's
