Hum.... you should search about this. We debate the weight difference all the time.

The only difference was the Ground Effects / Lights other than that the cars are mechanically identical.

I have converted from one to the other. The only thing that really makes the GT heavier is the foglamp support assembly. Besides that it's all just a simple body kit. Otherwise, they are exactly the same. You can suspect that the GT models are going to be "factory loaded" so all "luxury" options are usually included.

and the GT cluster - the 4 idiot lights (those dont come on LX's right).

Most of the rest could be optioned. I am not sure if LX's came with the 'handling package'.

Well in my area yes, especially since GT's here register as MUSTANG GT COBRA as opposed to LX 5.0, really scares a lot of the insurance companies.

the 86 GT did not have the ground effects that the 87-93 have. and it has the four-eyed headlights. the body was modified in 87. and the 86 5.0 was rated at 200hp, 87 jumped to 225hp and 285ft/lb to 300ft/lb. just a little info

If you are really interested in learning about the mechanical features of the Mustangs you should go here: www.mustanggt.org

It will get you up to snuff on the differences by year. (GT only, but LX's are similar)

And then you should read this post Fox Body Musatng Buying Tips It will really help you decide on a car that is what you are looking for / need.

GT's = I like LX's = I like Notches = I like

The thing that attracted me to the LX's was this:

1)I just LOVE the stainless steel tailpipes and the upward angle they have.
2)LX 5.0's are far less common than GT's. Notches are even less common.
3)LX 5.0's are a MAJOR difference insurance wise.

A friend of mine had an notchback. It was a 4 cylinder. It was also a 5 speed. I have only seen one of those. It came from factory like that too.

I purchased my LX 5.0 in 1995. It had 24,000 on it. Silencer still on, distributor cover still on. It had not been touched. I was 20 when i got it. I was gonna get a '95 gt however, the my insurance agent quoted me $5000 a year for full coverage. He said it was high risk vehicle. Now, I went thru this crap for a while. Basically, I couldnt have anything cool. All of the "good" vehicles were high risk. He finally gave me paper that listed high risk vehicles.

for ford it said.......

FORD - Mustang GT, Mustang SVO

It did not list the LX 5.0. I had him check into it and he said......"No problem".

I said.............WOOHAA!!!!!

That my friends was a wonderful day and a wonderful chapter in my life......

Difference?? Same car on the assembly line. Just ground effects, tailpipes.
