GT foglight fix and high watt bulbs

The "GT foglight fix" is to make a relay handle the current that the foglights draw instead of it being drawn through the headlight switch. The headlight switch is now safe from melting.

Now if I wanted to use a 100 watt foglight bulb instead of the stock 55 watt bulb, would I have to upgrade the wiring running to the foglights themselves?

I didin't have a problem with mine once I ran a relay...I still used the parking lights as a trigger, but a dedicated 12v power supply to run the power...

with the 100w bulbs, i didn't have any wire issues to the fogs at all...my buddy melted his covers though, so I wouldn't recommend any covers once you upgrade the bulbs :D

The bulbs you are using in foglights are actually 100w or bulbs that draw 55w but looks like 100w?

Also what foglight assembly are you using? Stock? Ultra clear?

Yes...
The 100 watt bulbs draw 8-10 amps current each. Check the wiring: If I remember correctly, the wiring to each lamp is 18 gauge which is only good for 5-7 amps. Even if it was 16 gauge, by the time you join both 100 watt lamps to a single power feed, you are pulling 16-20 amps. The 16 gauge wire is only good for 10-12 amps.

I re-wired mine with 12 gauge wire and it will handle a 20 amp load. The fog lights are nice and bright, brighter than they were with the stock wiring.

So in addition to the "GT Foglight fix" I would need to trace and replace all of the factory foglight wiring (from the dash switch out to the foglights) if I wanted to do 100 watt bulbs?

My relay gets a 12 gauge fused power feed, so I ran 12 gauge from the relay output to the fog lamps. All the rest of the wiring was stock.

I'm confused!!

After I do the foglight fix from tech section on Corral, do I need to do anything additional to run the 100w bulbs?
