GT grille idea...

Ok...for a while noe ive been looking for a billet grill for my 05 torch red gt and just cant seem to find one that doesnt look cheep and tacky to me...the only thing that i dont like about the stock grill is that its plastic...and it looks plastic! Cmon guys..we drive american muscle cars, not hotwheels! So i came up with my own scheme....im thinking about taking using a dremel with a cutting wheel to cut out all of the remaining solid portion of the honeycomb grill....most are already cut...then painting the grill gloss black...it would change the look of the grill, get rid of the plastic look...it would even look custom...and hell maybe even improve airflow! Anyone ever thought of this?

It would look great if done right, however it will be very difficult. I had to cut on my grill to install my shelby billet. It takes a steady hand not to eff up the grill with a dremel cutting wheel.

I had a look at opening up the blanked off holes and as has been noted, it's actually going to be a lot harder than it looks. Agent 47 do a high flow grille though.

I once had a Renault 5 Turbo and painted the grille on that. I envisage some difficulty getting all the corners clean and prepping it so the paint sticks plus you have to spray form every angle to get every surface and try to avoid "paint puddling" in corners.

It sounds good but may be one of those jobs you wish you'd never started.

Buy a stock replacement grill & work off of that... You'll at least be able to take your time on it and not worry about having to drive around w/out a grill.

I had the same thought after installing the ram air intake on mine. Open up all the grill between the fogs and force more air to the filter. Upon looking at the backside of the grill, there are several areas that would be difficult to achieve a good result. Possible, yes. I go along with LV51FER as far as wishing it was never started unless you do as blackraven mentioned and get a spare grill.

The honeycomb design is actualy quite deep and would be difficult to get the paint all the way in there without the puddling as mentioned above. I thought about painting all the way back when I did mine, but quickly decided against it as it would be VERY time consuming and would it really be worth it.

The first Mustang had a metal grill, open all the way. A duplicate of that would be great.

Last weekend, I installed a V6 Pony Grille/Foglights in my 2007 GT. With the chrome bezels, bars, and corral, it takes away from the plasticky look of the standard GT grille.

Took a little creativity to fabricate custom brackets (hidden under the radiator cover) and some weatherstripping to fill the excess gap (GT grille is bigger than the V6 grille), but it turned out well and I've gotten several compliments already.

Yea, I guess i didnt really think of that...well in that case, does anyone know of a grill...billet maybe, for an 05 gt that soesnt look like crap? I want to keep the fogs where they are and keep the pony....on second thought...I have a cdc aggressive chin spoiler...is there some way to get the fogs mounted in there and then getting a billet grill with the pony in the lower right side? I think that looks sick!
