Well I finally did it. Traded in the GT for a redfire 04' cobra. I never drove stick before, so me pulling out of the dealership was an ugly sight for sure.
Made it home in one piece thank god. Driving a stick i finally realize how
much fun I had been missing the last 4 years. Right now I am taking it easy
on the shifts, trying to learn the car. I like how the arrow lights up to let
you know it is time to up-shift, but it tells you to shift so soon. I would like
to rev it up alittle higher in the rpm band before shifting. Do you guys with
stick shift at a high rpm? Also, If you are rolling at around 40 mph in 5th
gear and you want to really get on it, are you supposed to downshift to like
3rd or 4th gear and really wind it out? I guess these are things I am going
to learn. Wish me luck, I'm gonna need it.
P.S.- If anyone is in the eastern De. County area in Pa., and you see a red
Cobra stalling out at a red light, it's probably me, so feel free to say hello

the shift light on the cobra does go off too early. i think thats more like the minimal shift point... Anyways, you will learn the car quickly im sure. the shifter is a little vague, so you might have some trouble putting it into the proper gear. as for downshifting, most people cruise in 6th, then drop it to 5th or 4th for passing. a drop into third is if you want to race, or really get on it. i suggest blipping the throttle prior to downshifting, as it will help match the rpm of the engine with the tranny. this will help prevent damage or stress. finally, you can shift it all the way up at redline if you wish. that is how you get the most out of the cobras and the 4v engine. however under normal shifting, sub 3000 or 25000 rpms in the usual.

optimal gas mileage Yae, sure, that's gonna happen. Well,
premium around here is $2.17 a gallon, I might have to think about that.
Who am I kidding.

It's on the instrument cluster. I think it looks like a little arrow.

My mustang was my first stick shift too... I never stalled it once on the street (on in drive-thru, and luckily no one was around) It was easy to pick up. Getting smoother takes time though...
