GT question

Does GT stand for "grand touring" thats what I have always thought.
What year did the 1st Mustang GT come out.

First GT mustang came out in 1965.

GT stands for Grand Turismo (Italian) or Grand Touring (English)

When I was little my dad had a 66 GT with the hi-po 289 (271 hp). I always loved that car and its a reason I love Mustangs to this day.
