Hey all, looking to do a cheaper upgrade to heads and intake at the moment for a little more power while I save up for a stage 2 trick flow top end kit. In the meantime I was thinking of going with a tfs2 cam and junkyard gt40 heads and intake- was wondering if the p heads would be best and whether or not I should get the heads with the internal egr or the heads without. Also looking for advice and how to tell the difference between the ps and the regular gt40. The final thing I could use some advice on is what years and models I could pull these off of and what I would need to do to them to make them work. I appreciate all advice in advance.

What is your estimated time for the stage 2 stuff?
The difference between the gt40 and the p's, gt40s have 3bars the ps have 4 on the end of the head. Different plug angles that make headers close to plugs
I wonder why put one setup on when you plan on the stage 2 setup?
Double the gasket cost, heads bolts twice, not counting the work that a set of used heads may need, just wundren.

Explorer GT40 or GT 40P cylinder heads. The GT40 heads have 3 bars cast at the end of the head. GT 40 's will work with any header setup, they are found on the earlier model Explorers from 95 - 97 I believe. The GT 40P's are found on 98-2001 model cars and have 4 bars cast into the end of the cylinder head.. They need aftermarket headers designed to clear the angled spark plugs.
Whatever you GT40 heads get, plan to replace the valve springs replaced with good quality aftermarket springs from someplace like Crane Cams or Competition Cams.

i was thinking at least a few years, saving up for a few things at this point, I don't the 3000 to spend on a new kit atm. Is there a performance difference with the ps because I have bbk ceramic coated shorty equal lengths?
