Anyone seen the Ford GT

Anyone in Sacramento? Elk Grove Ford just got a red Ford GT in yesterday. All I gotta say is THAT IS AN AWESOME CAR. The price though is through the roof. It is close to $280,000.00 well above the MSRP. That is more than a$125,000 mark up. They had the hood off the back everything was exposed BEAUTIFUL!!!!! The interior looked like a jet c0ck pit with all the flip switches on the dash.

There's an interesting thread on Brad's site about prices on the GT40. If you visit there check out the exotics forum. Prices for GT40's have been falling and probably will continue to do so. I think it's a great car, but because of the numbers in the production run I think prices will come back to "normal" soon.

That is what makes me laugh when I read about people buying the new Mustang as an investment. It is only a matter of time until supply meets or exceeds demand and then it will be just another car.

When the Acura NSX first came out dealers where I lived then were asking and getting $40k over sticker for them. Today those same cars are selling, used of course, for much less than half of wat the eager buyers paid for the. It always happens, and we will see what happens to the GT40.

For the record, I love that car. Make mine white with blue stripes.

Yep.... I am in Rocklin. Future Ford has had a Blue and White in since about October 2004. Steve Plaeu will keep it, just like he is keeping the Cobra-R and Panoz. Hahahahahaha.. Must be nice to own 5 dealerships. He is usually one of the first to get in anything. He was one of the first to get an 05 Vert in and I am fairly sure that he will be one of the 1st to get a GT500 too. I will get a call from my fellas if they do.

FUTURE FORD!!!! they got the largest fleet of mark-ups of all time I heard they have had cars sitting on their lot for years that are way over priced. I would not get that GT500 from them they will take you to the cleaners unless you paid the $500 lock in at MSRP.

The GT at my dealership has a sign that says "not for sale" on it. The interior still has all the plastic crap all over the seats and what not, and a another sticker that say "do not open." Very strange...

I ordered my GT 40 from Ford last year ...

A 1/18th scale diecast, sitting on my bookshelf. White with blue stripes.

Closest I'll ever get to owning one!

they are having serious, serious problems with the car. i think it was in the latest either road and track or car and driver. they are advising some people not to even drive them,,, for that money, stick with ferrari or lambo,,,,, the gt 40 is sucking big time

OH there is no way I would pay the dealers asking price for the GT40.As far as magazine reviews I really don't listen or read their reviews. Seeing that car in person and it's knowing it's history at LeMans nothing sucks about it. If I could afford the MSRP I'd take that GT40 over a ferrai or lambo in a heartbeat.

This is what I've been saying since the day they announced the GT.

The plan is to build 3500 of them. If Ford actually builds that many, by the end of the production run, dealers will have them sitting on their lots and will have to deeply discount them to get rid of them.

People never remember history.
Most high priced exotic cars only have a few hundred of them built, not a few thousand.

Original 1960's GT-40s command incredible prices because there were only 123 of them built.

Ford dealers could barely give away the last of the 427 Shelby Cobras (2 seaters) back in 1968 and only 356 of them were built.

Anyone want to take a bet as to whether Ford will actually end up building all 3,500 GTs? I'll take the under.

PS. I'm not ragging on the new GT, I'd love to have one, but only a fool would pay 2 times MSRP.

yea don kott in carson has a red one on the floor. its pretty nice. i did the pilot for a tv series Fastlane and we built a replica of the origional that we distroyed. replica or not it was a shame

That is a hard question to answer, becaue of how flaky the DeTomaso operation was.

It is belived that up to 6,091 Panteras were built between 1971 and 1977, however the number may be as low as 5,250 over those 7 years. (worldwide, not just the US)

The number of Panteras officially sold in the US through Ford (Lincoln Mercury dealers) between 1971 and 1974 is thought to be 2,439.

Keep in mind that at $9,800 the Pantera was relatively cheap compared to a 2005 Ford GT. Dealers were not able to command any signifcant markup over MSRP for a Pantera.

The Pantera still looks good. It's one of my faorite cars, especially in fly yellow. A lot of them are used as daily drivers and there's a very active club with a great magazine.

It has to be the most affordable semi exotic out there.

My dad tells me he was very close to buying a Shelby cobra back in 1969, the dealer was practically giving it away, but for about the same price he bought a Gran Torino. He was married and was thinking of having kids soon. That story killed me. That would have been a nice inheritance.
