gt40X alluminum heads

Im looking into getting a pair of ford racing gt40X alluminum heads (1.94/1.54) stainless steel valves anyways does anyone know how good these heads are im NA and have mild cam and on a budget. Want to know if anyone has experience wit these?? JEGS mag claims gains of up to 65 Horsepower????? does anyone know wat stock valve sizes are? Its an LX

those heads are going to flow alot better than your thumpers and be alot lighter to...but 65 hp idk about that much, but you will no doubt feel the difference

yea everyone tells me to go wit AFR but no way i can dish out that kinda cash the frpp gt40x heads are like 1100 dollars and thats my limit trying to deside on wat intake to go with wat u got on ur 87????

well i have a cobra intake...they are good but even better when they are ported. For your setup i would go with something like trickflow street intake. Either way you will gain a good amount of power with that setup. It really depends on what you want. More low end power, or a higher revving intake.

Did you read the article in the newest 5.0 magazine? They tried on the new Patriot head and got really good results and they are only $895 if memory serves me right!

Compare them price wise to Trick Flow heads and see how they come out. The Trick Flow heads are the next best thing to AFRs and will make more HP than almost anything but AFRs.

Remember that Trick Flow heads need new rocker arms and pushrods when you total the dollar figure.

I like the x's, but not for 1100. Get wedges for that much, don't worry about afr's there is no justification for the extra money. Wedges are just as good and sometimes better.
Also goto buyfordracing.com, on the cover page they have x's for 999.

I have them on my car and put 257 hp to the rear wheels through my AOD with the setup in my sig.

I have used the X heads in the past as well as the Y's and they both work really well. The build quality is real good but the valve job could use some work. For the money the GT40Y heads are really good also I believe you can get them for like $800.00 bucks. A built a car for a friend of mine with them and a F cam with 1.7and a carbed, its a real fun car. What cam you have?

I got y's as new take offs 2 years for 699. Problem is that they don't leave any room to grow as far as cnc porting, since nobody has a program for them.

in all reality..how much dose the aod truly rob you hp wise? like wythors if you were to go T-5 would you number you put down though the aod to the t-5 be a big difference...ive heard that the aod robs as much as 35% is this ture?

yes, exactly why I don't think your stock AOD vert trapped 94mph, my geared and full exhaust vert was trapping that and it is a 5 spd.

The numbers I've always heard bandied about are 25% drivetrain loss for an automatic and 15% loss for a manual. If those numbers are true, then my car with a T5 should be in the 290-295 rwhp range. I just finished my 5-speed swap a couple of weeks ago, so I'll be able to give you hard numbers in January when my car club has it's annual dyno day. The tranny is the only mod I've made since last year's.

The Gt40X heads have big 178cc intake ports and don't flow much better than the Gt40Y's which have 160cc ports.I had a little porting work done on my Y's and they flow as good or better than the X's.The Y's are great in every day driving....torquey but not the best track head.For everyday fun driving plus track performance ie.good low end torque plus good top end,heads like the AFR165's are ideal;they have excellent flow #'s from very modest size ports.

If you are going to spend money on porting the y's, just get the x's instead, port work is at least $200, thus making up the difference in cost.
I know, i had a set of y's and then spent money on them. It was senseless

I think the trickflows go for about 1050 dont they? Why spend 1100 for the X's when you could get the TF's for less money and they are a better head?

I think the difference between the trick flows and AFR 165's are negligible. On a street driven car there will be almost no difference....5-10 hp at most.

my aod fox was traping almost 96... 95.78... with whats in sig and minus a couple things... have yet to be back to the track with the t5

well he has a BONE stock VERT. I'm saying my car is healthy and trapped the same that he claimed he did, yet mine had gears, lower elevation, and full exhaust and is 5spd. He also mysteriously didn't have time slips. +he said he was running on 7 cyl or something like that recently so I def. call BS
